Anyone have any first hand experience with one? The good the bad.
I’m aware of limited bullet selection and not really interested in hearing about a 270wsm, I have one.
Thanks for any info

We have one in 300wby (we being my dad but I actually have the gun). They are sweet rifles, but I don't know anything about the 270wby caliber, even though Ive messed around with pretty much every other caliber from Weatherby from the 240 to the 460, I never messed with the 270 or the 7mm.

Is this a new model of the rifle or an older model? the older ones sometimes a\had some issues, the newer ones apparently have improved. My dad got the ULW last year for a Caribou hunt and really liked it, for their 1700 dollar street price though, theres probably other paths I'd take.

RC refers to range certified, where it has been certified to shoot sub-moa.

The first rifle I purchased was a Mark V stainless in a 270 Weatherby. It was my primary rifle for 12 years and I used it to shoot animals from pronghorn to elk and moose. While the 270 calibre does suffer from a lack of bullet choice in comparison to 7mm and 308, it is still a great cartridge. I'm planning on rebuilding my 270 WBY now that the factory barrel has been shot out and I'll likely keep it a 270. I don't have experience with the lightweight Mark V's, but I do own an outfitter edition of the Mark V in 300 WBY and it is essentially a lightweight with a few modifications. The outfitter has been accurate, I've shot numerous 5 shot groups in the .45-.65 range. If you're not into reloading yet, it would definitely be something to look into because shooting any Weatherby gets expensive in a hurry.

I hunted with an ultralight in 257 Weatherby for a long time, one of my favorite all time rifles. Buy that 270, put a ~20 oz scope on it, load some 140's at zippy speeds, and you'll kill lots of animals provide you do your part!

If the owner makes the deal I plan on it. Will either put my VX5HD or VX6HD on it, not sure

Not sure how to tell if it’s older or newer.

There’s one main way to tell if it’s older or newer, a really old one will have a black or grayish stock, newer models have the brown/tan stock.

But there’s a difference between the newer 2016 and on models and the previous models. Look at the pistol grip area on the stock, the newer one has more shape to it. For example, get on weatherbys website and look at the pistol grip area difference on their pictures of the mkv ultralight and the vanguard backcountry you should be able to clearly see it.

I thought the same thing about the stocks of different colors but have been told different

If it has the black/gray stock it’s an older version and may or may not be a shooter. I think they even called it the “Alaskan” at one point.

The newer ones also have a better trigger. The one my dad has is a 2016 model, the first year they really made the improvements and it’s quite a shooter.

As for the “RC” that means range certified and I don’t think they make an ULW RC model, again I could be wrong but if I remember correctly I was told awhile back that the RC is based on 5 shot groups and they don’t certify the ULW with that since it’s just not designed to shoot that much that fast because of the thin barrel, it was at least ~ 3 years ago when I talked to them about it.

If for some reason you pass on this ULW, take a look at the vanguard back country, you can get one for around 1k and it’s just their vanguard version of the same rifle.

Would a 2005 be considered and older or newer Ultralight? And it has the tan stock with black webbing and black flutted barrel

2016 was when the trigger update and a few other things happened. In the ones from 2005, I think just the 300wby had accuracy issues.

If it's 2005 with a tan stock, it was originally sold as a Super Big Game Master, the Ultralight at that time had the grey stock similar to the Accumark.

Can you get a reliable round count? If not I would ask to have the bore scoped, that thin of a barrel can heat crack in the throat pretty easily if the shooter isn't careful. I was young and dumb when I got mine, shot the barrel out in 500 rounds, probably could have easily doubles that by letting it cool between shots.

Owner says had the barrel checked out and was fine, he hasn’t shot it though. Bolt face looks like it hasn’t seen much use. The gun in question is in the want adds here

I use a .270 Wby from New Ultra Light Arms that I use for the majority of my hunting. So while I can't comment on the specific rifle, I will say having a very light .270 Wby is hard to beat for all around use. Depending on the situation, I have 129 grain LRX's at 3275 fps or 150 grain Berger VLD's at 3150 fps. It's a very flat shooting, hard hitting, low recoil round. Hard to beat it for anything from coues deer to elk out to 600 yards!

I've got a couple of the lightweight Mark V rifles in 257 and 270. They both shoot well, but I hated the triggers so I replaced them immediately. The 270 is a sweet shooter with 140 gr Accubond handloads.
