.270 Hammers

I have a Viking Armament on the way with a 1-8 twist 24" barrel. I am planning on loading up a few different bullets including the Barnes 129gn LRX, 133 hammers, 140 hammers, and the 148 hammers(I am in CA). I can't seem to find many people shooting these bullet weights in hammers. there seems to be a good number of people having luck with the LRX but I'd like something a little heavier as I'd like to feel comfortable reaching out to 500 for black tail.

Has anyone been shooting the 133, 140, or 148 hammers out of a fast twist .270 that can tell me about their experience with their load development or their experience with hammers in the field?

155 LRX would be worth checking out as well.

I have a fast twist .270 and live in California. McGuire is supposed to be coming out with a 140-150 class bullet, their 127 looks good as well. Cutting edge also has some high bc stuff. I never see them in stock and you have to ship to a FFL but DRT has a 152 thats lead free but not a copper mono that in theory should be a better hunting bullet

I've shot elk to 650 yds with a 126 Hammer, so I'm sure you're fine with the heavier ones.

stop your search at the 129 LRX unless you just want to spend more money on boutique bullets.

I shoot 124 HH in both 270 Win and 270 Weatherby. Both have 26" Pac-Nor 9 twist barrels. I have killed elk with both out to 600 + yards with total pass through broadside shots and none traveled more than 40 yards with good blood trail and some just dropped right there. My experience shows me that 2000 fps impact velocity gives pass through on broadside behind the shoulder shots even if two ribs are hit.

I've been using 10-15gr lighter bullet as a starting load for Absolute Hammers with good results.
