I’ve killed close to 100 deer and elk with 129 grain SSTs in my .260s over the years. Killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 coyotes with them as well. Countless other varmints…. Can’t go wrong there in my opinion.

My bud has had great results with similar (but now discontinued) Hornady 6.5 swede 129gr SST factory Superperformance ammo.

After seeing his results I started playing around with 129 SST and H4350.

260 and 260ai and all have liked 140 hvld berger and h4350. Have ran 130 accubonds with one 2 shots on a black bear at 100 yards or less not performing well, but many coyotes and deer down with the berger 140.

I think with a straight 260 shorter barrel 129 to 135 grains would be perfect. 139 and up even better.

The 135 atip would be another hell of a bullet.

They work excellent on coyote and deer. Puts a nice little hole on the off side of coyotes out to about 600yds, size of a quarter. then like most bullets tend to not open up past that. Inside 600 they do great.

I know several guys using them on black bear, mule deer and elk with good results.

Yes and the BC is pretty decent. It's the only bullet I use in my 6.5saum. It should do extremely well in a 260 also.

125 Nosler Partition
127 Barnes LRX
129 ABLR (if you can get them to
shoot)
130 Accubond
130 Game Changer
130 Hybrid

Any of those should work well and keep the velocity up in the short barrel.

My wife’s 6.5x47 Lapua shoots the 129 ABLR at 2920 with a 22” barrel and it slams whitetail and Axis here in Texas.

The 129 ABLR and 127 LRX perform excellent. I've still got a few boxes of both sitting around. They work!

120 gr. Nosler E-tip! .497 B.C. and it will work on everything up to elk for you. It will penetrate and hold together very well. I've used the E-tip in other calibers and it is a great bullet.

130 gr. Nosler Accubond. .488 B.C. Can't go wrong with this bullet either. I'm a huge fan of the Accubond.

125 & 140 gr. Partitions. .449 B.C. & .490 B.C. A Partition is never a bad choice!

I've also shot some elk with a 130grn Swift Scirocco 2 bullet and did well also. But good luck trying to get any. I have about 40 of those left and it was like finding hens teeth when i bought them. Now they're even worse.

I'm currently putting one together too. For those that aren't limited by a short action mag, what are COALs for 140 gn variety projectiles? Hawkins makes a DBM with 2.88" capability. Thank!

Not sure if this helps but my Tikka can chamber this 143 gr ELD-X at 2.965" COAL . Really nice to be able to seat them out like that.

That is consistent with the medium to long action preference I've been running into. thanks

I shoot the 130 Hybrids. They are right at 2.90" OAL. The boattail is up above the neck shoulder junction on the brass. I bet they would work at 2.88"

What are you looking at for an action, do you have something already? Not sure if you can get a DBM that can get you out to 3" but 2.88" is an improvement over the 2.8" of some of the short action's available.

I just got into a 260 Remington in a 700. I got a ton of ammo and it’s all mixed bag. Mostly light stuff but some 129 grain SSTs being the heavier of the hunting ammo. All told I’ve got about 180 various rounds sitting here.

I’m looking forward to figuring out what the gun likes. But I’m also of the opinion that if the 6.5 can be regarded as a do all type gun, why not the 260 rem?

So I’m considering loading one round to rule them all, once I get set up. If you’re familiar with the 260 rem and so inclined; what round would you build and why?
140-147 grain eldm or x’s (I really can’t tell the difference). Forget Berger, they clearly can’t keep up with their customer demand in the 6.5 skus. My barrel loved them, but they are too expensive and always out of stock. Hornady is the way to go for performance on game, accuracy, and affordable. The 260 is really a fantastic caliber that can do double duty for hunting/target shooting.

it's an origin short action but the Hawkins M5 DBM allows up to 2.88". Trying to decide if it will work or if a medium length is necessary.

In shooting the factory ammo I had for the gun it really liked the sig elite hunter 130s. That said, they are discontinued...of course. I shot 4 whitetails with it and it was absolutely devastating. I had one 311 yard shot and me, the gun and the round all did it right. Anyone know what bullet sig used? I read somewhere it was a polymer tipped gameking.
