I've got one and it's been a great gun. I shoot 100 grain Barnes TTSX's out of it just over 3500fps. I've killed elk with it, one shot and the performance is impressive. It's a great round!

Had a custom built in the .240 bee variety. Almost as soon as it was in my hands, I wished that it was the .257..... Someday

I've worked with a few 25.06's and a couple of 257 "bee"s - there is a difference that is hard to describe but it's like you have to work at getting the "best" from the 25.06 and the 257 bee out performs it with a distinct feeling of ease - very enjoyable cartridge to work up loads for although it DOES heat up a barrel (DAMN! Now I think I need one ...)

I will look it up, but for clarity the 257 bee you refer to is a 308 win necked down to 257?
Just another name for the weatherby, never heard that before.

I have two 270 weatherby magnum and 300 weatherby magnum. One 270 is an accumark and the other a fibermark. The 300 is Mark V stainless.
I love the weatherby rounds. Love the rifles too. I'm working on some reloads for my 270 now. I still to put a glass on my 300. The 300 is going be elk rifle
I love grandpa's old 270 Weatherby. Made in Germany in 1960! Smoked my bear with it last fall. I can't believe how much that thing kicks for being a "270". I ended up putting a break on it lol!

Oh yeah they kick like a mule. I have a 300 weatherby magnum that needs glass but I'm probably putting a break on that one.

Nope - the "257 bee" we are talking of is the original .257 Weatherby with the radiused shoulder on the case just like the 270 Weatherby and 7mm Weatherby, all three are based on the very same case

what you are thinking of is the "257 Ackley Improved" based on the .257 Roberts round - PO Ackley felt it was one of the most efficient of the "improved" rounds he developed and I would not disagree

the two rounds are completely different beasts

Thanks, never heard the Weatherby called the Bee before. I have a 257 Weatherby and 2 Roberts, a Ruger Hawkeye 77 and a Win m70 sg. Really like the 25's. I had another Roberts in a tang safety Ruger 77 but traded it off a few years ago. I think the round I was thinking about is called 25 scream(?), 308 necked to 257 and I think like the AI, sharp shoulder etc.

Edit: it's called the .25 souper, and that spelling is correct. About a grain less in powder capacity than the Roberts, only advantage would be able to use a short action while most current Roberts are built on long action I believe.

Does it have the original butt pad on it? We did a session with my Uncle's 300 weatherby mag that had the original pad from the 60's and it was hard as a rock and beat the snot out of us. He put a new one on which helped a lot, then he added a brake.

No, the original stock is probably in 98% condition and beautiful wood. I found a Bell and Carlson for the German Weatherby at the local gun show. So I put that in there and the wood is sitting in the basement, safe from my abuse lol. But that old rubber pad doesn't look fun! This is my first magnum so anything past a 308 in terms of recoil is a lot lol.

When my wife stated hunting her family gave her a .257 Mark V and I have to say I am impressed. The scope is matched to 120 gr nosler partition hand loads. I was a bit hesitant with a "small" caliber for elk but took it out for cow elk to see how it would do. So far I have taken 2 cow elk the went a total of 20 yds. My wife has killed a nice mule deer buck and a very good bull with this combo. They both went a total of 40 yds. I have been leaving my gun in the safe and shooting this one. Recoil is manageable for a 125# lady and it shoots sub moa out to 500yds as that is about as far as we shoot. Only downside unless you reload ammo is $$.

All shots have been in the 100 - 300 yd range as that is the terrain we hunt but if you get one I would think that you will be satisfied with the performance as this "little" gun sure surprised me.

You guys are killing me, Cabelas has one they haven't been able to sell. Awfully tempting but I need a bigger safe.
