Rem 700 lss I believe it has the 1-10 twist.

My dad wants to take it out for mule deer this year.

Any ideas on some loads to try in it?

I’ve had good luck with accubonds using h4831sc, h1000, and rl26. 26 has been the standard out in two different barrels.

I’m searching for a 257 wby barrel to compliment a 25-06, so I’ve played with different bullets and will just shoot the same Partition that the 25-06 gets loaded with.

My former Partition shooting friends that have moved to the Accubond question why I don’t switch and give up Partitions. The difference just doesn’t seem significant enough for the distances I’m shooting. Here’s the two bullets and velocities out of the Nosler manual when I was thinking about what the Weatherby will do:

Hard to beat a 115 HVLD out of a 10T Roy. Mine also shoots the 110 TGK very well if you prefer a "tougher" bullet. Retumbo or H1000 will serve you well

Try IMR 7828 SSC and 100 gr Barnes TTSX or 100 gr Nosler Partitions

I really don’t think it matters. Whatever is most accurate.

My BIL just last weekend shot a bison with his 257 using the factory 100gr TTSX load at 100ish yards and it blew right through it like nothing.

Me personally, I would focus on the 110 TGK or 110 AB for load development.

This Pacnor 24" 1:10" 3 groove is a Hammer, it has shot Barnes 100gr TSX, Nosler 100gr BT's, Berger 115gr VLDH,s into knots with RE22 and H1000, CCI250's...
But it will spend the rest of it's life thriving on a diet of Hornady 110gr ELD-X at a modest 3400fps via H1000 to help preserve Norma's freaking putty soft primer pockets... grin

What speeds you get with 100’s out of that 24”?

Barnes 100gr TSX moly coated and kissing lands, REM 7RM brass sized for a positive head spaced false shoulder, CCI250 and 72.5gr RE22 = 3680fps Very Accurate but a little hard on primer pocket life.
Also used Sierra 100gr SGK same as above but with a jump to the lands with 72gr RE22 for 3620fps.

Skinned things back some. Norma 264WM brass same deal with the positive head spaced false shoulders. Nosler 100gr NBT moly jumping, 72.5gr H1000 - 3450fps. Silly accurate !

Should note my chambers throat is a non SAAMI .100 thou FB versus the WBY .378 thou FB. I also had to skim turn the necks a skosh for a bit extra clearance as the necks will thicken up when re sizing from a larger diameter and that totally sucked. Hence I throttled it back to see the barrel out with my remaining brass.

There’s no reason to not run Peterson…

The brass I have will see this barrel out and then my 257 Roy will be just a fond memory as I will re barrel to another chambering...

I’m running 70.0gr 7828ssc, 215gm, wtby brass, and 117gr SGK in my lss at 3400 fps.

My first custom rifle rem action, 24" Hart 10 twist, McMillain stock. I only use 100 grainers liked the 100 nosler solid base until they quiit making them then went to Sierra 100 grain BT spitzer. For a long time the magical load was 68.5 grains IMR 4831. Then 7828 came out giving more velocity. I was getting close 3700 with like 72 grains 7828. This was the early 90's. Took one doe at 500 the rest close range great caliber.

Must not be a SAMMI spec chamber if your touching lands?

@ridgeline you cant beat a roy! I have a rem CDL Stainless Fluted 26" 257roy. Runs 100gr TTSX barnes at 3650fps. It's not kind on primer pockets but it hits things like a lightning bolt! H1000 and 264wm brass neck turned and fireformed.
Would also be rebarreling to 6UM or even a 257WBY 1:8" for 134ELDMs once this barrel is toast.
