So just recently my lovely wife has been talking about coming hunting with me. This won't be hardcore mountain hunting and this point just upland and deer hunting, but any quality time my wife and I can spend together is certainly welcome, plus it gets here involved with my interests. This has started the wheels turning in my head as I do not have a rifle that she could use that she would enjoy. I know my wife and it needs to be a classic looking rifle that is a nice shooter (soft) but I don't want to fall into the trap of specifically purchased rifle for her that I can't really use. So my thought is get something I can hunt with, but she could use if she chose to do so. This has lead me to the .257 Roberts it seems to really be a great round. I reload so finding ammo at every Wal-Mart is not that big of deal to me, plus I always seem to gravitate towards the less popular cartridges.

Anyone here have experience with this round, and what rifle would recommend new or old, I love my Winchesters.

Thanks Cross

257 roberts is a great caliber. Don't overlook the 243,260,7-08 either. A m70 is an awesome choice also.

A pre-64 mod 70 257 Roberts is rifle that I would love to own. I think it's a great classic round that has carries a lot of nostalgia. Good luck on your search.

Have shot many deer and antelope with my M77 in .257. 7x57 mauser is a good one too(original cartridge the roberts was created from...i believe). Bought the rifle when I was 14 (47 now). Great cartridge.

Kimber chambers their 84m Classic Select in the Roberts. Awesome rifle, that should fit what you describe as wanting to a "T".
Good luck with whatever you choose.

My buddy took an antelope with a Rem 700 SA chambered in 257 Roberts at 575 yds last fall in Wyoming. That cartridge will work just fine.

Great cartridge for your wife as is the little brother, the 6mm Remington. Both very accurate and mild on recoil. You could not go wrong with either choice. A Winchester Model 70 in the.257 would be a really classy rifle for her.

I just remembered that the Montana Rifle Company in Kalispell Montana builds a rifle with what they feel are the best features of the Model 70 and the 98 Mauser into their action. Very nice looking rifles that would set you back about $1000.00, but very well made. They chamber for both the 257 Roberts and the 6mm Remington. You can get walnut or synthetic stocks on them also. Worth checking out these guys!!

Really soft shooting round in the old Remington I have kicking around. Been pondering getting a Kimber Montana in .257 Roberts for the Missus for a while..

Thanks guys I will look into the Montana rifle Co. and Kimber options

I am going to keep my eye out for a Model 70 that I can get chambered for the .257 (if the price is right)

I have a bull barrel chambered in .257 Roberts for my T/C Contender carbine. I can only shoot minimum loads but it's a fun accurate little rifle as long as I shoot boat tails out of it.

Winchester made a special run of Bob Featherweights about 3 years ago. They also made some Cabela's exclusive Bob SG Featherweights. Only problem is that no one seems willing to sell theirs.

I love the .257 Roberts! I've never owned one but my uncle did and I use to use it. I'm going to buy it from him someday. Right now I usually just use my 25.06 and it gets the job done.
