25 PRC

Hi - Have been reloading for around 10 years but haven’t ever worked with wildcats. Have a 25 prc on the way and just wanted to bounce my thoughts off of this group and may have a question or two. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

- Brand new virgin ADG 6.5 PRC brass. Plan to shoot 133gr Berger Elite Hunters.
- Run the brass through a Redding full length bushing sizing die with a .284 bushing. (.257 + .015 + .015 = 0.287 - .003 = 0.284) Leaving a small false shoulder to keep the case against the bolt face.
- Trim the brass to 2.015.
- Run the brass through a LE Wilson .256 mandrel.
- Seat the 133 Berger around .035 off the lands in front of 57.5gr of H1000.
The result should be fire formed 25 PRC brass… right?

Anything else I should be thinking about or doing?

That sounds on point, I did it almost exactly as you are planning. This was my load data , please remember all rifles are different.

Thanks! Did you work up to any signs of over pressure with H1000?

I found pressure with H1000 around 60.5 but just ejector marks, no bolt lift etc. with RL26, I found pressure around 58.5, its smoking fast but only have 2 pounds left so did not pursue it afterwards.

I'll have a barrel showing up sometime this year..... Probably going to start in a similar place. have the 134 ELD Ms and h1000. I might also try a vht powder.

N565 worked well for a friend.

I did much the same. Used 134 eldm, h1000. I only have 10 rounds or so down the barrel, but so far it looks good. I did have to drill out some clearance on my 6.5prc seater so it didn’t crush the tips on the 134.

I would highly suggest annealing the brass before you form it, and I would even do after you form it. If you do 750 degrees, as long as you let it cool between each time, you won't "over anneal" the cases. However, it will be much easier on the transition for you.

Also... I have never heard of a 25PRC. I currently have a 6.5 PRC, love it... What would the advantage be of going smaller?

Similar performance to the 6.5
Prc, but less recoil. You loose about 10g of bullet weight by going down to the 25 from 6.5. There are now really good bc 25 cal.

Also super easy to make. Use 6.5 prc does and use a 25 cal expander and neck bushing. It’s less than .010” reduction in neck diameter so no issues forming it.

Alex Wheeler has one running 133 Berger w/N570 and is getting some very impressive results, 3250 from a 24in Bartlein barrel. I think it's worth reading through if you have a 25 PRC.
