25 prc? 25-7 prc? Experiences? Gotchas? Intangibles?

I built a 25/270 wsm 15 years ago. Had Manson custom make the reamer and later had custom dies made. I only shot 100 grainers then getting little over 3600. Last week i tried the 110 tmk getting 3555 1/2" moa 100 yards. Its nice having a short action 257 whby.

I got the 25-300 WSM barrel installed and the barreled action in a Rokstok. Have the rings and scope in hand to install, then I should be ready to start working ladders with the 134gr ELDMs.

Anyone know when the 128gr ELD-x is going to be available as a component?

WTO did a 25-7prc for me. It shoots 134 eldm's at 3175 out of a 20" barrel. That's at a high node with n560. It's hard on brass at that speed and I'm using ADG brass. May experiment with n570 to get pressure down but I hate the large kernels. 1000014067.jpg1000015833.jpg1000015832.jpg

For the guys running the 25prc (6.5 case), what coal you guys running? I have one that was chambered by crownridge and it seems the throat is designed to be under 3" coal but this leaves me with the boat tail below the shoulder junction, would love to get the throat extended to use all the volume and run around 3.050-3.1 coal.

So far im trying 2.950 with 135 ELDM. I hit rifling at 2.970ish. My barrel is a 25-6.5 prc blackjack reamer from my understanding. I’m running it in a short action so that was fine by me.

Finally making some headway over here.

Barrel finally came in.

Roughly 6 month wait. Unexpected.

The pbb hybrid lite profile ends up being decently thicker then the factory lite. I was under the impression they would be about the same.

Resultant weight on my 23.25" pbb helical fluted barrel was 0.1 oz heavier then the factory 24.3" 300 mag barrel. I was hoping to shave half a pound with the fluting.

Looks pretty snazzy though. (Debating a metallic copper rattle can job 😅)

As pictured im at 9# 6 oz w/o the mag and pod. Nx8. Peak 44 bastion. TBAC 9.

The tikka factory mag seems to work great. The waters is going to need some more tweaking. Need to break the files out.

First load is 135 gr bergers. Adg brass sized in a SAC die. Cci 200. 57, 57.5, 58 gr of n565. I think im about 2.93" COAL. Wish I would've seen if they had a longer reamer. Ive got all the length in the world with the tikka action.

Nice set up! I got out of the 25 cal game just to come back and order a 25 Sherman Mega reamer. Let’s see how it goes.

I got hosed by ups or I would've had it ready for an nrl 1 day this weekend. "Needed signature". Utterly heartbreaking when I got that message Friday afternoon.

I know the feeling, absolutely sucks! Keep us posted!

What velocities is everyone seeing with the 25-6.5prc with 134s and what barrel lengths. I’ve seen them all over the board here. Just wondering what’s a realistic expectation.

This was a 24 inch 1:7 twist 25 PRC I Had, Lapua brass.
The slower one is with 133 Bergers and H1000, the fastest 134 ELDM and RL 26.

22” 2850 with 55g of h1000. Aiming for 2950 and pretty sure I can get there with 56-57g. I do have rl-26 to try if I can’t get there with h1000.

I have an 18" and a 20" 25prc from what I've seen about 50fps over 140g 6.5prc load data will be very close to what will function reliably in wet conditions.

First range trip yesterday. 18 through it.

I do not recommend using a hellfire match brake under a canopy. Lol

Didn't want to use the can as I was cleaning as I went.

23.25" pbb. Adg brass. Cci 200. N565. 135 gr bergers.

Shot 56-58 gr

56 was 2930 ish. 57.5 was 3000 ish. 58 got to 3040 fps

No pressure signs.

Accuracy wasn't great. But I was cleaning often and the barrel was warming up. Sd/es was poor as well.

Im gonna load up a bunch at 57.5 and get it seasoned in a bit more and get the brass fireformed (hopong to find a good enough load to do an NRL 1 day with virgin brass). Maybe play with seating depth.

The throat seems pretty short. I started ~.010 off the lands. I'll try .030 - .045 and maybe .060 (any thoughts?). The ogive might be. Elow the neck at .060 😅

Ive got all of the room in the world with the tikka. I don't remember the coal exactly but I think it was around 2.9-2.93. Im pushing em in deep.

It's hard to hold my horses and let it just shoot in! But those groups were rough. 1.3" 3 shot was the best.

See how it does with 57.5…but I’d load up 10-15 not a bunch. I would change powders if it’s not up to your standards before tweaking seating depth or anything. Then change bullets if it’s still not good after 2-3 different powders.
