Anyone built a 25 creed?? Just getting into the gun building game and have to say this peaked my interest. Every big game animal ive taken with a rifle was with my 25-06 my dad bought in his 20s (even while my 300 sat in the safe) I've got a spare rem 700 LA BDL stock laying in the back room I could build off to keep it light as I start out ha

There's a thread on 24 hour campfire where a guy built one.

Between me and my family, we have several 25 caliber rifles. If you really like .25 caliber bullets, then the 25 CM is interesting. My warning to you is that the lack of good, high BC 25 caliber bullets is very frustrating. AFAIK, there's two options for high BC 25 bullets; the 131 grain Blackjack and the 117 grain ELD-X. I'm sure there's more options, but they are likely expensive and not readily available.

If you're getting into custom rifles and reloading, there's a lot better options in 6.5mm, 7mm, and .30 cal.

Take all that I've said with a grain of salt, but this is coming from someone who has a lot of appreciation for the underrepresented 25 caliber offerings.

Ya I'm currently building a 300 win but just the idea of the 25 cm was exciting to me. Only reason I found it was looking at what to load for my 2506 next. I've got 5 different things loaded right now to test but havent had a chance to shoot them all yet. I don't plan to long range the 06 but thought a lightweight 25cm might be something to play with. Just hard to find much info!

I was looking for a balance of low recoil vs high BC and enough bullet weight for me to feel comfortable shooting elk. The 25 creedmoor was what I settled on. I’m shooting the 131gr blackjack with a .340 G7 at 2950fps.

The rifle has very low recoil and is super accurate. I’ve been very happy so far. The ballistics beats out 6.5 creedmoor.

Ya I was thinking keep my 300 heavier to handle the recoil and use it on shorter hunts and shooting steel. Build a light weight 25 creed for backpacking in far or long. I figure on a light weight stock, short light barrel, light scope then sacrifice a little weight on a suppressor and you'd have a slamming gun that was lightweight but was kicking like a mule for being in the "lightweight" category.

Once my 6.5 creed barrel is worn out on my nucleus. I plan to swap over to a 25 creed shooting blackjack 131 grain bullets. I dont plan to hunt with it at all this is just my competition rifle for prs and nrl.

I've had alot of guys telling me to not do it and just run a higher BC in my 2506 then build something more common like a 6.5 but I cant decide if I'll listen ha

I get that completely. If it's for a hunting rifle I wouldnt do it just for the fact that if I was out hunting and somehow lost all of my ammo I wouldnt be able to go to the store and buy 25 creed ammo. It's also a long drive back home to go load more ammo.

Assuming your '06 is a 10 twist, there are no "higher BC" bullets that will work in it.

25 creed or 25x47 with 131 blackjacks is a fantastic balance of ballistics, recoil, and barrel life, but you're married to one cottage bullet maker to get there. What if bullet supply dries up? What if your rifle doesn't shoot that bullet well?

Hell, that one bullet option makes it better than 0.277 bores in my opinion but I'd still probably stick to a 6 or 6.5 over a 25.

Do it, the .257 needs more love. The black jack ace is the bullet to shoot. Just make sure you get at least a 7.5twist barrel screwed on. I'm building a 25-284
I realized something I hadn't originally that tweaks my plan and that is the fact that the 25 creed is a short action.... I was planning to use some spare long action stuff I had. Still wouldn't mind doing it but the stars didn't line all the way up yet

A 22 CM is a laser beam.

A 24 CM is a rocket.

A 26 CM is a half-ton pickup.

A 30 CM would be a school bus.

A 25 CM would be a Buick with limited access to spare parts.

I guess I just don't see the purpose in necking down .007, and building a gun around 1 bullet. What if your barrel doesn't like that bullet, or the bullet company goes under? You stuck with a fast twist .25 with too small of case capacity to do what the other, bigger .25's do, sling light bullets at crazy high velocities for a 400 yard MPBR type rifle.

When Hornady, Sierra, or Berger launch a new high BC .25, I'm in!

no doubt those companies will eventually make .257 great again. Sierra is making the bullets for Blackjack just like the Dtacs for Tubb. all the .25 cal does is give you 6.5 140+ grain BC at 130 grain weight, most standard cases can push that 130grain projectile near or beyond 3000fps, you get more speed with higher BC, and usually more energy at distance. according to the numbers, my 25-284 going 3150 with the ace will have a good bit less wind drift and more energy at 800yards than my 6.5saum pushing a 143eldx 3000fps.
