Cant imagine a better round for antelope. 243 is a great cartridge.

The only one I can think of is essentially the ballistic twin to the .243, the 6mm Remington, because that is the one I own! That rifle has killed a ton of antelope and deer using a Hornady 100 gr Interlock bullets.

243 is plenty. As others have said, as windy as it can be in the plains, even the heaviest 243 will be more suseptible to wind than other calibers with 150+ grain bullets. On a couple of my WY hunts - the wind was significant.

This thread is a little old, but a .243 is great antelope medicine.

The 95 grain NBT is a good bullet in it, too. I don't see any reason to shoot the Accubond for better penetration. The 95 BT is actually a pretty tough bullet.

I shot my antelope with one this fall.

I have shot antelope for many years with a 25-06, 260 Rem, 7mm rem mag, and a 300 win mag. I have a 243win, and have shot it to 1079 yards in calm to no wind. I’d have no problem taking a goat with the 243 win within 500 yards. If farther, I’d trust something heavier due to our lovely breeze here.

All above is right on! The only down side with a .243 is the range..I have used one for years but beyond 450 yards you don't have much left. The last Pronghorn I shot with one I found the bullet inside the off side of the animal! Keep in mind that the energy is going to drop off at about 400 and you will be fine!

.243 is a great caliber for medium sized game. I’ve seen more game lost with a 338 than a .243.
