.243 deer bullet choice

My son and I have taken a lot of game with the 6mm Remington to include elk. I know, good shot placement and good bullet equals dead elk. The 6mm is a fantastic antelope and deer cartridge. I would feel comfortable with any of the bullets I list below.

95 or 100 gr. Nosler Partition
90 gr. Nosler Accubond
90 gr. Nosler E-tip

90 gr. Nosler E-tip out of my son's 6mm Remington. One shot 350 yards. She went 20 yards and tipped over dead.

90gr copper bullet from a 243 seems like an awesome hunting bullet from 243 cal. Barnes and Hornady copper lines top out at 80gr.

Shot deer with the 80gr barnes and 90gr noslers, neither was very impressive to me. Wounds were about an inch wide from the barnes at most and the noslers maxed a little less than an inch. I shoot a lot of different bullets and those were about 8 years apart. In both instances the following year I loaded a frangible bullet with better results. 105 a max after the e tip and 95 bergers after the barnes

90gr coppers just aren't needed though. There's nothing you would even think to shoot with a 243 that needs more penetration than the 80gr barnes or hornady.

I have had great success with the 85 Gr HPBT from Sierra. Strongly recommend them, though they can make a mess. I shot a smaller Doe back in my younger years with the 243 Win and had to head to the barn to do chores prior to it being gutted. I just remember the fella that gutted came in later and asked what the heck I was using as it made a heck of a hole and some blood shot meat. Most every one I shot using this has dropped in their tracks. Only had one go about 70 yards and I hit it to far back.
