Hi all, apologies if this has been covered — I searched without much success.

I’ve read up about how folks here have abandoned cleaning their centerfire barrels and have adopted the practice myself with no issues so far. What’s y’all’s take on rimfire though? I’ve got a .22LR rifle with maybe 500 rounds through it and had some Aguila Extra casings get stuck — had to pop them out with a pocket knife. It’s not an issue with any other ammo though. Thought it might be time to pick up a cleaning rod, since rimfire ammo is so much dirtier than centerfire. Curious what folks here are doing. Thanks as always!

It’s essentially universally accepted from cleaners and non cleaners alike that 22lr barrels shouldn’t be cleaned beyond a short distance around the chamber to allow good chambering and ejection. That’s everything from plinking guns to the best match rifles. It’s not the end of the world if you clean the whole barrel, it just may take a considerable amount of ammo to get accuracy back to peak performance.
