As title states, thinking about switching the 223 AR15 to one of the above.

Would shoot the factory Hornady ELD-X or ELD- VT ammo.

Which one would be the most accurate? Which one would be more effective on coyotes under 500 yards.

Realistically all shots will be within 200 yards.

I’m torn between the two. Thanks in advance.

You are torn because there is little functional difference between the two for your purpose, and you will not find any compelling reason to choose one over the other unless you narrow some criteria in the balance of factors.

Ultimately, at the distances you are talking, 200 on game and 500 for fun, velocity is king and BC of a bullet doesn't do much for you, so that's why I would choose the 22 ARC.

I have gone up and down the scale from 338 lapua down to .223. Love rifles in 6mm, but the new 22 cal bullets in the 22 ARC are money.

I bought a 224 Grendel upper years before Hornady released that case as the 22 ARC, and hand load for it. Its a lot of fun, but inside 500 at the range, I shoot my .223 more because I don't reload for it. At 200 yards, the .223 has enough bullets and loads available.

My choice for my little bolt action hunting rifle is 22 BR, which only has a little more capacity than the 22 ARC.

My choice for range fun/long range is 6mm because stretching it out to 1000 I can more easily see impacts and get a little better wind drift numbers.
