Just picked up one for a song that I’m gonna dedicate to my wife’s coyote and deer rifle here in Nebraska. Kinda thinking I wanna shoot heavier bullets.. like 73 elds. Thoughts?

What brand rifle? I have often thought about getting a 25 WSSM, maybe some day

The 25wssm started all this. There is one at the local gun store in a Browning Abolt.. then I traded and swapped odds and ends of ammo for this 223 wssm.

With a cleaning rod and tape measure it looks to be a 1:9.75 twist..

If it’s 1:9.75 twist it seems on the too slow side for the heavy bullets.

for deer I would consider the 52gr hammer hunter- aim for bone. My experience with 22s on deer is skimpy blood trails.

Factory rifles were made 1:9, so I'm thinking heavies at typical 223WSSSM speeds are going to tumble.

The 60gr Partition would make a pretty good load for smaller deer, etc.

Rebarrel it so it’s throated and twisted for the proper bullet. No sense in hamstringing the delivery system.

Great advice. It came with some 55gr vmax that were said to have shot well.
It’s gonna get rebarrelled/trued and some trigger work for next year I think. Probably roll with it the way it is for awhile. Wife won’t shoot it near as much I would
