.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I believe my ASC stainless steel 20 rounders measure 2.310". But I've also read the lip in the interior can peel up and decrease the COAL. I have some for 73gr ELDM and I winder them for seating out 75 gr ELDM's to 2.365"

While I can’t confirm the stainless asc can fit longer, I cut a window in mine for 2.350”, I can confirm the aluminum ASC 10 rounder can NOT fit 2.300”

Yes, I'd also be interested in seeing a side-by-side of some 77s and 88s shot in gel at various velocities.

In my sample of one, I'd bet that 88 would have significantly more penetration potential than most of the 77s I've shot into animals.

OTOH, although I didn't have time to open the bear, I didn't see as much external bloodshot trauma that I've seen quite a few times with the 77s. That probably makes sense as for whatever reason, this bullet didn't come apart nearly as much as the 77s so far have.

I suppose by next year we'll have a pretty good idea of how they compare.
Kinda surprised you caught it. Leg and impact velocity prolly helped. 38% of it got to do some fireworks.

And yeah it is fun to watch the the tmk vs eldm agenda. It’s win win regardless as more options the better. Hope to see the tmk agenda progress to big name available factory ammo lineup on all shelves in North America like Hornady has with eldm, so more options to compare in new rifles and just shoot most accurate one. Gettin by on factory eldm has been pretty easy for a long long time (even in Canada) but Sierra and especially tmk, seems to be still a reloaders bullet outfit. Federal feels like it could do it best?😉

It's a lazy Saturday so I don't feel like taking pictures of my ACS mag taken apart and measured with a dial caliper. Here's the thread where I got the idea from.

I started with the 75 ELDM because of availability. Then I found a bunch of 77 TMK, but the ELDM worked so well I didn’t even work up a load.

Tikka 223 stainless
Vertical grip
SM T084 or UM rings
SWFA 6x or 3-9x
I think I have read every post in this thread and looked at the pictures and I want to participate
I hope to order a rifle today but I’m not sure about the rings. Does it take special rings for a Tikka? I never see anyone mention bases for the rings. Educate me please.

Tikka rings are great, they clamp directly to the dovetail machined into the action. Very stout mounting setup. Sportsmatch TO84's work very well, and Unknown Munitions do also. The UM's have are a bit nicer, the recoil pin setup is improved vs the sportsmatch and they seem to be built a bit more stout but either one will hold very securely.

If you are going to use a 30mm tubed scope get these: https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/sc...piece-30mm-medium-suits-tikka-15mm-dovetails/

If you are going to use a scope with a 1" tube, use these: https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/sc...048c-tikka-2-piece-medium-1-inch-scope-mount/

The Unknown Rings clamp on the rail that is built into the Tikka receiver and they have a vertical stainless steel pin that also helps prevent the scope bases from moving. There is a "how to install" video bald way down the page that shows how they work. https://www.unknownmunitions.com/product/um-tikka-rings/

They have worked on my rifle and I don't lose zero.

I have read that the sportsmatch also work really well but I have no experience. Be sure to look for the optics mounting thread where Form shows how to degrease, paint pen/locktite and torque everything down. How you mount the scope is part of the process that keeps your zero from wandering.

I now have three sets of the Sportsmatch rings, two 30mm on tikkas (TO84?) and one lower 1" set on my old Mossberg .22lr.

I intend to use them as often as possible going forward, now.

FWIW, on my older Tikka 595, there's no big hole in the rail for the recoil stop pin, but I figured out that with the rear ring positioned where I needed it, I could install a screw (6-48?) into the action's scope base holes (a weaver #61 base fits, IIRC) ,and nail-polished that screw into place, to use it as a recoil lug of sorts. This is on a .223, so while I know a simple single screw isn't the perfect lug in terms of strength, it can't hurt anything. I pressed the rear scope ring forward as I tightened the rail clamp screws so there's pretty much no chance of the ring sliding forward. The other option would have been to use the other ring (the one with the pin hole in it) as a guide to drill a short pinhole into the receiver but that seemed a bit over the top for a .223.

Eta: like so:

(And yes, I'm aware that I use nail polish with all the grace of a three year old with crayons)

Personally, I choose to bond a rail to the action with loctite 380 and use standard Pic rings. If you get a SRS rail and nf ultralight rings, I think it's less weight than the UM rings and more flexible.

That’s my preferred method, glue the rail to the action, torque the screws, and use low rings.

But I also wanted to be able to put my thermal on any of these rifles for varmints.
