22 Creedmoor Build Questions

You don’t think it would keep together with a 1:8 twist? Damn, not the news I wanted to hear. I only want 1:8 so that if I did step up into an 80 grain for larger animals it would stabilize. So since you have a tikka action with a 26 inch barrel give me the run down. What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it? If you did it again, what would you do differently? Sounds like you’ve done exactly what I’m trying to do.

The recommended RPM rate for a vmax is 300000 rpm’s. With a 1:8 twist and 4,000fps you’re getting approximately 360,000 rpm’s. Theres a possibility that bullets going to spin apart. I never tested it at those RPMs and I definitely don’t want take that chance. That’s why I did the 1:12 twist. It keeps the rpms well under 250000 rpms.

So I bought the stainless T3X in a 1:8 twist 22-250. It was a good gun but the barrel was slow. 53 vmax was only going mid 3400s but it was accurate. I shot that barrel out and knew I wanted more speed for a dedicated thermal gun.

I went with the m24 contour PBB to add weight to the gun. It’s currently in a KRG whiskey 3 folding chassis with a heavy Nocpix H50R thermal on it. I use a Tbac Ultra 9 suppressor too. This things insanely long but I’m not walking that far with it.

I wouldn't do anything different at this point. It’s exactly what I want and it got next to no recoil. Perfect for standing on a tripod. The 53vmax hammers coyotes too.

The tikka action is so freakin smooth and the factory trigger is pretty good. Plus there’s unlimited aftermarket stuff for it too.

After further research and speaking with my local guy I plan to buy a tikka t3x lite stainless model in 22-250,308, or 6.5CM and order a preferred barrel. Do you have options that are more cost effective than this? 1400 bucks just for the rifle, not including a rail, rings, or scope. Sucks to just toss a new factory barrel. Anyways, kinda leaning on a strait fluted stainless 24inch barrel in 1:8. As far as bullets thinking about 55gr Barnes or a Hornady equivalent. From what I’ve read, that twist isn’t too fast. Barnes loads them in a 1:7 barrel and gets 3800fps. I do not have any idea what contour to use. I would like as close to a bull barrel I can get while still fitting in the t3x lite stock. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks again

2 January's ago I bought a 6.5cm tikka for $650. Pulled the barrel and sold for around $100-125. Bought a pbb for about $550. I also got a rebate and I’m fairly certain they’re running a rebate now. You should come in under $1400

Could you recommend a PBB contour if I was gonna keep it in the original stock? If not, no big deal. I was planning on calling them and asking what they would recommend.

I’m not entirely sure what will fit the factory stock. I sanded out the barrel channel on the factory stock immediately after buying it. Then put it in a KRG bravo shortly after that.

My local place has them for 900 bucks!?!?! Some of them are 780 with a rebate but none in the correct bolt face. Anyways, tell me what you like about the rifle? Is there anything you don’t like? Any recommendations for me?

I built a 25cm but plan on buying a 22cm barrel on Black Friday. I bought the rifle off of gunzonedeals.com. I actually bought 2. A 223 and the 6.5. Gave $650 each. I personally feel the stocks are flimsy, but the rest of the platform is solid. My pbb is pretty good as well. 90% of the groups I’ve shot are well under moa at 100, usually around .8” for 10+ shots.

I agree. I think I’m going for a 53gr vmax and 1:12 twist

I believe tikka has a 22-250 super varmint with a heavy barrel that is 24”. Might get you close in factory configuration, could rechamber or shoot as is with 22-250. Wont be long to burn out the barrel and you’ll have a better idea of what you want in contour/weight etc

I just checked that place, unfortunately they are about 900 on there too right now, in the cartridge I need anyways.

Tikka 22-250 with 1:8, cut to 22 Creedmoor. You’d need something like a 22 SAUM though to get the ver heavy 0.224 bullets near 4000. I could push 73 gr absolute hammers to 3700 in my 22” barrel with RL26

And this rifle shoots the 53gr vmax at 4100 through a 22 creedmoor?

Yes. Depending on what lot of Varget I’m using, I’ve had it a little over 4100 fps with 42 grains. I’m at 4070 in this latest 1lb container I’m using. Alpha Brass has made it to 5 firings.

A 1:8 22-250 is gonna be knocking on the doorstep of what a 22 creed is gonna do and in my experience, it’s a less finicky cartridge. I know it’s not sexy and the body taper of a 250 can be a nuisance but overall i found accuracy much quicker and across more bullets on the 22-250 vs a 22 creed but YMMV

All this to say you could save some coin and shoot the 22-250 for a bit and if it doesn’t scratch the itch, pull the barrel and have it reamed out to 22 creed.

Lots of 1-8” 22-250’s and 22cm’s that shoot 50-60gr varmint bullets at max velocity without issue of bullets popping mid flight.

Do you have any bullets you’d recommend for this. Again I’m trying to take them to 4,000 fps
