If you had to compare a caliber to a 22.250 that is extremely ballistically similar what would it be? I love my 250, just wondering what out there is similar.

22 Creed gets you plenty of speed and typically uses heavier projectiles. More factory ammo out there now and endless possibilities when handloading.

22 GT - primarily need to handload (looks like 1776 Ammo loads it, maybe a couple more manufacturers if you dig around).

22 ARC seems close to 22-250 performance based on numbers I've seen some member post here.

22 gt would be close, 22 creed will slightly exceed its performance. eithers a good choice if you just really feel the need to replace the -250.
ive been messing around with the 22 ARC a lot lately as well, the capability relative to size is pretty unreal

I’m starting to really like the 22 & 6mm arc. The 22 arc is about mid-way between the 22-250 and 223. Reasonable and available reloading components & factory ammo, short or mini action length, functions well in short barrels & supresses very well. Generally they have a fast twist so they work well with heavy for caliber bullets. Best of all, they have very good barrel life… I have a tendency to smoke barrels, especially when I start shooting ground squirrels & rock chucks… I lack moderation & patience :)

22 GT is the modern 22.250. 22 Creed is bigger/faster. 22 ARC is a moderate sized alternative with better barrel life and a little less performance. Most of the new kids are built with faster twist barrels than the 22-250 though and not as frequently made for the traditional 50 grain class of bullets that the 22-250 has been for varmints.

If you were replacing a shot out Tikka 1:8” twist .22-250 barrel, what would you recommend using as a replacement? Assuming the user liked shooting 77- and 88-grain TMKs (with a strong preference for the heavier bullet).

If building I'd prefer a 22 GT but that's basically a handloader only or overly expensive custom ammo affair. Seems 22 ARC might be a real nice choice too but i'm not sure the magazine situation is fully sorted if using factory style bottom metal.

Practical choice is sourcing another factory take off 22-250 barrel.

Handholding isn’t an issue, but I wouldn’t want to have to modify the bolt, bottom metal, magazines, etc.
