22-250 converted to 22 Creedmoor

We have caliber restriction off 22 for night hunting. Love my 22-250 but more energy an just as flat shooting thought why not. Actually just picked my Tikka T3 back up yesterday from being rechambered. Gonna try it out in a bit with a normal scope see how it groups

Unless the 22-250 had a tighter than saami chamber, running a 22 creed reamer into the chamber won’t touch most of the neck or throat, since it’s designed for a tighter fit. Not saying it won’t work, or is a bad idea, but I wouldn’t expect the accuracy gain of the newer cartridge design.

Question about the 22-250 or 22 creeds. With the 1:8 barrels running higher FPS or RPM’s it appears hornady’s 62 grain VT isn’t the ideal match because of possible stability issues or the bullet coming apart. Is that just hornady’s base line guidance to follow SAAMI specs?

I’ve seen a couple other forum postings about guys wanting to shoot this higher BC bullet (62 gr VT) but being told that the bullet either won’t stabilize or will come apart if being run at higher speeds with the 1:8 twist.

I also saw Hornady responding to some YouTube comments that a hand loaded 22-250 in a 8 twist would be great.

Tikka 22-250 1 in 8 converted to 22 Creed. That was at 100yds with Texas Ammunition 80gr ELDM gonna hand load some 75 ELDM an 77TMK with RL23 or 26 haven't decided yet.

A LOT of guys have had 88s blow up with a 7 twist Creedmoor. Usually as the throat gets a bit thrashed, and really pushing speeds with 26"+ barrels. I've heard of zero issues shooting them from a 8 twist. I suppose a 7.5 may be ideal.

I’m throwing around re-chambering an 8 twist 22-250, or possibly ordering a 7.7 twist from Carbon 6 (I’m in South Louisiana near them). I’ve listened to Hornady and Horizon guys talk about over-spinning bullets past 300k rpms and having issues. Ultimately I want to shoot the 88 ELD-M’s from an 18” barrel, since I’m basically at sea level, I think the 7.7T is necessary to stabilize, but at 3200 fps that yields 299,220 rpm. Pretty darn close. I wonder if this is a legitimate concern at that number or if Hornady is issuing a “CYA” statement to guys wanting to push those 88’s relatively hard. Of course if it was an issue, could always back off the charge, but what’s the fun in that?

My 7 twist is now 18" and shooting the 88s just fine still. At about 3000 fps from 22cm.
I'd be surprised if you get near 3200 with a 18" 22-250. Anyway, you should be way good with 7.7.
Lots of guys are using the 88s in 8 twist barrels.

I have a 7 twist 22-250 AI with a 25” barrel that runs 88 ELDM and 90 grain ATip bullets at over 3300fps and they both hold up fine.

I won’t be converting to a 22CM either.

I am at about sea level too and my 22/250 Tikka won’t even stabilize 80 ELDM over 400 yards, they don’t keyhole but just don’t shoot well

Ok I’m looking into buying another new tikka 22-250 and sending it off to be re chambered into 22 CM. I talked to a local smith and he can do it but says he’s not that comfortable with doing it because of accuracy issues.

Anyone ever have accuracy or any issues for that matter after getting a re chamber?

I did two. One shoots good with the 88s, the other I sold on here before shooting and the new owner has it shooting good from what I understand.

The factory barrels are good quality, whether or not your smith does a good concentric chamber job will probably be what’s important.

I did it and my buddy saw what my tikka would do and built the same gun 18” tikka in 22cm mine pushes the 88s right around 3050

Good to know. I’ll probably send it off to Kampfelds. Seems like everyone has good luck with him. The local guy being unsure about it makes me less confident using him.
