Looking for info on doing haul road caribou hunt with my 2 sons. All in good shape and hunted in Alaska before. I’ve got all the gear. Rifle and bow hunting. Know about the 5 mile buffer.

What are you looking for?

The best advice you I can offer is whatever level of fitness you think you are at. Its not good enough. Mind set is key for tundra walking.

My wife and I walked 52 miles in 4 days through the tundra to get our small bull in 2024. thumbnail_IMG_3398.jpg

My advice would be go as soon as possible.
I'll start off by saying I have no proof or anything substantive to base this opinion off of and I hope I'm wrong but I could see the haul road opportunity going away for NRs in the near future, or at least to a draw. One of the reasons I made it happen sooner rather than later. I've seen opportunities dropping like flies everywhere across the west for NRs, figure this one will too eventually.

Consider using pack rafts. Hike to where one of the rivers enters the brooks range. Hunt where it funnels the caribou. Float back out to the haul road. Very easy floating on those rivers.
