2026 Thorofare Non-resident Draw Odds

Have a guided Elk hunt with an outfitter in the Thorofare that has to be used this year. 0 preference points, so I know there's virtually no shot at nonresident rifle in the W region, but do I have any chance of hitting an archery draw? Don't mind applying for non-resident special, but didn't see any were issued last year despite 2 quota. Doesn't appear anyone applied in the special preference point draw.

Can add a mule deer as well which looks easier to draw, especially in the non-resident special.

I’d talk to the outfit you’re planning to go with.

Some of the thorafare units are 100% wilderness, and they’re unit specific tags (I think), that can be drawn with virtually no points. The outfitter can probably pair your app with someone that has enough points for you both to draw.

If there was a quota of 2 last year and none issued then that means nobody applied. Means even if you have 0 points and apply you’ll likely draw, so if your hunt can only be used this year I’d apply in the special for the archery tag. Good luck

Those type 9 tags are weird. They often swing from year to year. Ask the outfitter.

You would have drawn type 9 last year, but not in 24 or 23.

You have 3 options - apply special type 9, apply special W general and hope for random, ask outfitter to party app you with another client that has pref points to cover you.

You just put your draw odds at 50%. All it takes is for 2 people to read this who decide that’s a good idea that they hadn’t thought of…..

Basically all of the units that contain the "thorofare" require a West General tag draw. The others are either archery specific tags or very hard to draw LQ.

To the OP.. Did you already pay in full years ago or something? Why is it required to be used this year? That being said, your question should be answered by the outfitter. Who should be trying to help you if you already paid them, by trying to pair you with other hunters with points so everyone draws.
