Shoot2Hunt held a Winter version of the 0-600 Yard Hunting Course last week. Below will follow some of the notable experiences/information.

Weather for the week:
The first couple of days was warm- 50° F and windy. Then the temps dropped on day 3 or 4, and it snowed approx 5”, and got to below 0° F for lows. Highs those days were single digit...

For those that suggested the OV jackets, the price point sure doesn't hurt. There must be an embargo on the down though.

That puffy looks awesome. Any idea on a relative $?

The Outdoor Vitals is fantastic. Very light and incredibly warm. Used it last year Elk and Muley hunting. Couldn't be happier with it.

Looking at the puffy used in the S2H class it appears to me to be a different use case than the Outdoor Vitals puffy. The puffy you were testing looks to be for very cold weather, say a late November/December/January hunt versus the lighter Vantage, 24oz versus 16oz. I guess buying both would be the way to go!

Probably the one you saw would have been a “large” as they currently are labeled. They are supposed to be sized when they go for sale, appropriately/big. Which means- if I wear a large in t-shirt and tops, the “large” puffy will be big enough to go over a t-shirt, baselayer, and mid weight (sweater) layer- and not be tight.

Picked up a Rab Electron Pro from Backcountry w/ 25% off sale recently. That's a pretty sweet jacket. 6+ oz of 800 fill down. Build quality is top notch...

So looking at those photos, is a ruff able to be added? The white version looked to have that unless I’m seeing it wrong.

Interesting, I was guessing SG Drumlin since that just got released. 12.5 oz of their down and their shell fabric will make a heck of a jacket!

No. The SG came from what this jacket was supposed to be. It’s missing critical parts of what makes the jacket so good. After Kurt left they killed/changed the project.

Whatever magic voodoo is in the project jacket makes it oven warm AND functional. I truly despise buying new kit… unless it’s an upgrade. In this case it is and I’d gladly hand my money over today for it.

Add some puffy pants that can go with it…. Now you’re talking.

It would be pretty neat if this puffy was being developed for something new Kurt is building behind the scenes. Either way, this jacket is gonna rule…
