2026 NRL Hunter Thread

My 25 prc makes it with plenty to spare. Im at 11-1/2# with a triple pull. I was at like 10# with the harris

Also its a 23.25" pbb tikka hybrid lite with helical flute 😅. 2# 5 oz barrel. The peak 44 also helps. It was 22 oz before I bedded it. Bedded and with an arca at the CG and the arca/pic adapter at the front its 28 oz.

Ive got a 26" 25 prc barrel in .810 taperless with helical flute coming too. It should be about 3#6 oz. So it "should" make weight.

If it doesnt I just picked up a 36" hatch that will be mainly for hunting, but will be my nrl weight loss plan. it seems pretty slick.

What mags and bottom metal are you using?

It is a Lilja factory contour with heavy fluting.

This is their description;
Tikka model 595 Continental varmint profile; 1.120″ dia. shank for 2.5″ the taper over 7″ to .810″ then taper to .785″ at muzzle
That’s a great contour. Sounds pretty close to a CTR.

Shot the Laramie match this past weekend. Great Match. My squad (only 3) were cruising from stage to stage with zero down time for the first half of day 1 but did eventually hit a traffic jam. Day 2 was very quick for us as well - we finished before 11am - other guys didn’t wrap so quick but I think by 12:30 or so everyone was done.

Had a nice mix of calm (ish) conditions and decent winds for both days. It was my best match performance to date and now I just can’t wait to shoot another and hopefully keep improving.

looks like PRS finally took notice of the popularity of NRLH and are starting their own field based series

At first glance the scoring looks like a lot of weighted-points gobbledygook. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I’d rather not see a competition that requires a quantum computer to see who wins between a 8 lb magnum hitting half the targets and a 17lb 6mm cleaning the match.

What id really like to see is a semi laid-back version like a total archery challenge to compliment the competitive NRL matches

I'm kind of hoping/thinking the Nebraska Sportsman Series is the laid back version of NRL.

Id say it kind of is....but don't discount it as just a starter league, they have some pretty good venues and a wide target array. It's a great starter competition series, but there are some heavy hitters that will tell you that they aren't just meatball matches.

From my understanding it's just a handicap system. So the 8lb magnum goes into it with a 7 point lead on the 17lb 6mm. Might be a lot to figure out for the people checking shooters in, but should be very simple by the time scores are being entered.

Great callout (TAC). If you look at what they've done in that industry, they are creating some big draws for both shooters and vendors all over the country.

Have you tried a 1-day NRLH match? I've only shot one that was with a squad on here but it was much more laid back than the official 2-day matches. Shooting that match in skills was about the most laid back match opportunity I can think of.

I have, there's just a lack of 1 day matches near me compared to the 2 day matches (really 2.5 day commitment with check in). Don't get me wrong, they're awesome I just wish there were more of them near me.

I'm very interested to see these other "Find-Range-Engage" leagues or outlaw matches start up. I understand its a huge commitment to set up a range for these type of matches compared to PRS so I understand why they aren't as prevalent.

I really like the NRLH format and wish the one day matches were more prevalent. It’s something that’s cheaper and can truly be done in a few hours vs the weekend matches.

One thing I’ll be interested in is if the network of PRS folks can access more land so you’re doing more field based shooting vs just on a square range. I think they’d struggle preventing guys from pre-finding targets on square ranges

Add me to the list that would appreciate more single day matches.

I would also like to see the two day matches do check in on Saturday morning. I understand their reasoning, but like giblet said, it becomes almost a three day event.

Even bigger plus is I can actually shoot my hunting gun and don’t have to worry about a dedicated rifle to make power factor
Yeah - I am in the position of wanting to build a 6.5cm for next year so I can actually meet power factor and compete.
