2026 Grizzly/ Brown Bear hunt….who's going?

The 308 is awesome! It’s been our family go to gun for browns and blacks!
Do you have a preferred bullet? I’ll be up next year and don’t have much desire to bring anything larger than .308, but also don’t want it to damper a guide’s enthusiasm.

We shot all our Grizzlies with 168 ELDMs probably not BRWNBR's preference but they worked on our bears, we weren't shooting coastal monsters. I had a hot load that drove 200 gr Partitions at 2400 fps (you might do a tad better with a longer barrel). Never shot a grizzly with it but it made good holes in black bears and exited except once it hit the spine and traveled along that before stopping. Something like that would probably make a guide feel pretty good. I doubt you could duplicate my load with a copper due to them being longer for the same weight.
Personally I plan to do a similar load with 200 gr Eldx bullets if I can make it work.
The great thing about a 308 is you tend to shoot it more then a 375.

We actually shot a handful of browns and blacks with some 308 black box home defense ammo that year when you couldn’t find ammo anywhere. It worked just fine too.

The swift a frame will work great as well. We tend to way overthink ammo these days because we have so many options. Truth be told they will all kill a bear.

I can spin a .308 barrel on my MRC (mag fed CRF) easy enough or use a Tikka .308. Some wildcat sig fury cases and send 195gr TMKs (or whatever 200gr pills, was thinking partitions if they shoot well) at .300 win mag speeds. Peninsula bears.

Big brown bears are easier to kill than small ones. Sounds weird but it’s been true for my experience. For some reason smaller (8’ and under) bears tend to go crazy when shot. Bigger bears seem to go into slow motion…confused and trying to figure it out. But no bear ever has yelled or complained about muzzle velocity or energy, ballistic charts, bullet weights. Only thing is we have shot a few with Berger bullets and I swore I heard them laugh at loud…

We used a Swift A Frame in a 30-06 and a 358 for black bear and moose. Very similar to the Partitions. I couldn't imagine one killing and one failing. A 180 gr A Frame in a 308 would be fine with me. A moose was hit with a 150 gr 308 SST and a 225 grain 358 Winchester, I can't remember if it was a Woodleigh or an A Frame. Anyway they both stopped just under the hide on the far side of the moose. Within reason, most things work.

Lucked into a cancellation hunt with an outfitter I have hunted with before, landing in Cold Bay on the peninsula on May 8th. Super excited, bought a 338-378 weatherby mag the week before not knowing I would be going. Glad I bought it as I hope to hammer a 10 footer with it!

Heading to Kodiak this week for a draw tag, taking a tikka 300 WSM planning on using the 212eldx. Any input on that bullet for big bears?

I’m headed down on Monday. Gonna be a ride with the weather Forcast this week. Uhg.
Your gun and load will work just fine.
