It's time to burn my 26 non-resident elk points in Colorado. My daughter will be applying separately with her 4 points for a cow tag. I narrowed it down to Units 66, 49 or 501 for muzzle loader and could consider 66 for first rifle. It looks like these units will give me bang for the buck on my points and neither one of us should have a problem drawing. Looking for an outfitter for semi guided or 2 on one. Any advice would be appreciated.

Dont be pissy but if i had 26 preference points i would not burn them on a tag that did not let me hunt with a modern bolt action rifle. With my luck it would rain non stop all week and the elk would all stay 350 yards away from me.

That’s a tough spot when you include the cow tag. Your leaving a unit that touches 66 off the table that’s far better but there isn’t cow tags available for 1st and muzzy you are right on the edge of drawing but I sure wouldn’t bank on it.

There isn’t a unit on your list that is worth 1/4 of your points. Keep looking those aren’t it.

You can do a lot with your points, and she’s not in a terrible spot with hers. If you go guided, have the outfitter provide a PLO or voucher for the cow tag, which will save her points, and you burn yours with the outfitter. I’d work something like that.

DONT burn your points on those units you mentioned!
