2026 Bear Success Thread

My son and I are in Canada on his first bear hunt. He shot one Monday night that got away. I thought the shot looked real good but the results didn’t match. We were both obviously very upset. Figured the shot must’ve hit the leg and not caught anything significant.
We went back near the same area tonight. Right before dark, I spotted a bear about half a kilometer away. I took off running and got in close enough for a shot. Boom, belly flop.
When skinning him, found that he had very recently had the tip of his elbow shot off! It’s the same bear. It’s also my biggest bear to date. Measured 6’4”.
Hope to update this thread later this week with one he takes down.

Spring bear hunting has become one of my favorite activities with my 9 & 12 year old boys.

With the lack of snow pack, the green up came early. With plenty of salad spread about the bears seemed less interested in many of my typical spots.

The lack of snow also meant some of my spots were more accessible. I was frustrated at how many “hunters” My trail cameras captured driving up to the bear habitat. I only captured 3 groups of hunters that were on foot.

I harvested this bear a week after my 12 year old passed on him. He was holding out for a tank we caught on camera and ended up eating tag soup.
