Had another great season with my boys I thought I’d share!
Our season started as usual with archery antelope. My older boy Hunter (14 yrs old) insisted on hunting solo this year for antelope, usually the 3 of us would sit together for antelope but he wanted to up the odds and sit in his own blind. I was kind of unsure about it but he reminded me his new phone he could satellite text so he’d be able to keep in touch with me so I gave him the go ahead. Opening morning he text me he missed a nice buck, asked what happened he said he went to draw back when the buck was at the trough and a doe busted him, the buck went out to 35 and he shot and the buck on high alert ducked the arrow.
Later that evening I get another text from him. I’ll attach the text below.

I got got the chills when he sent the “smoked him” text, was so excited for him but also a little bummed I wasn’t there. First time I’ve let him go out on his own like that.

Talen (12 yrs old) had one antelope he wanted to shoot or eat his tag trying, he passed up a couple smaller bucks and ended up sitting 19 days trying to get his target buck but he never showed the days we where sitting.
They’ve been able to get extra doe tags yearly and we always try and get out before general deer season. Talen was able to make a great shot on his doe first night out.

While we were looking for Talen’s deer hunter was pretty sit on shooting a doe with the iron sight 30/30 all day, he was never able to get in range, the following evening he decided it would be cool to shoot one with my buddies 45/70 that was with us, with the scope on it he was able to extend his range a little and shot his doe right at 120 yards with the lever gun.

Got a bonus yote before deer season

Hunters grades were good so gave him the pass to slope school for a week for deer camp, he passed up several decent 4 pts, on day 7 we found this buck and he decided it was the one. After a full day of cat and mouse with the buck and following him around the mountain he finally stepped out right before dark. We put in close to 11 miles that day.

After that Talen was up, that kid has all the luck and drew a later tag, we were hunting a new unit and there wasn’t much deer sign, with having good grades I gave him the same deal as Hunter and let him skip a week of school. First few days we didn’t turn up any deer, area was a migration hunt and with no weather in the forecast he decided this would be a great buck to take the last couple days of the season, it was hot on a doe and he finally stopped in an opening clear of the doe long enough for him to make a perfect shot.

As I just mentioned he has all the luck and was fortunate enough to get a late cow tag as well, first 3 trips out all we found was bulls, 4th trip we spotted 2 cows in our unit, he got set up on the tripod and made a couple great shots on her, was the first time we’ve shot elk with a 6.5 prc and I was uncertain how’d it do, first shot would have been plenty but just never know.
