Looking for everyone input on what hunt I should do next year for a western hunt.
Some background on myself. Im 25 from Wisconsin, have some money but not loaded by any means so not looking for a crazy expensive hunt and looking to do DIY. I did a elk hunt OTC in colorado two years ago and didnt get anything but learned a lot. I purchased better gear and worked on being in better condition for this years hunt in Idaho for Mule deer and the person I went with was out of shape and ended up getting sick 4 days in so had to leave early. So to sum it up, i currently havnt had an amazing experience out west, but still have the itch to get something under my belt. Im not to picky on the hunt I do, but preferably would do something with a higher success rate for Nonresident. Can anyone help me decide what I should start looking into for trying to get a tag to do? In both Colorado and Wyoming i have 2 points for deer, elk, and pronghorn. Not sure if this is enough to get into a unit with semi decent success rates or not. Any help is appreciated.

High success and easy to draw don't usually correlate in non resident general season type hunts. My advice is pick an area that you like, and try and hunt it as often as you can. And pick somewhere as close to home as possible. You can look up the statistics on the fish and game websites the same as anyone else. The data you want is out there and readily available.

Keep building points, decent antelope units can be had but I think a few more points will expand your options a lot. OTC and find a decent hunting partner sounds like you’ve already gone down that path with a bad partner.

Me and my hunting partner both killed nice speed goats early opening morning in a zero point unit.

Figure out where you want to go.

Scout hard online.

Get there early and scout hard before the season opens.

There's no shortcuts.
