2025 Moose Hunt one for the books.

Congrats on a fine bull and an epic trip. I got a moose in 2009 on an unguided drop hunt trip to the Brooks Range. Called the bull in from the willows to the far side bank of a river running fast and waist deep (stupid). Camp and landing strip was a couple miles downriver. We were able to get the bull across the river to a gravel bar by locking arms and fording the river with 100+ pound packs. Called our bush pilot who told us he needed 1100 feet to take off with a moose. I paced off the gravel bar…it was 900+|_! Called the pilot back and told him no problem:)! Spent the rest of the day clearing brush and moving rocks. Even put up a wind sock for him. Next morning he comes for the pick up and does a fly around. I was panicking that he was gonna take one look and fly away and we’d have to pack that moose all the way back to the strip.
He makes a loop and comes in low along the river and skims the wheels on the surface to slow him down and rolls right up on the gravel bar in a textbook landing! Moral of the story….do what you gotta do to make your dreams come true! Congrats again on an awesome bull and thanks for sharing your story. How’s the back recovery after your adventure?
