2025 Caribou Meat Pole

Walk in rifle? How many trips? Seems like I saw more walk out rifle guys this year than ever before.
It’s tough going with a heavy pack across that tundra…
Yes walk in rifle. My buddy and I walked in with camp and both killed bulls that evening. We took camp and a quarter each out the next day. He hurt his leg so I did an out and back yesterday to get the rest of mine and another out and back today to get the rest of his. The tundra is not for the faint of heart. I did 40.3 miles over the tundra in the last few days. It’s humbling. And the creeks are high and tough to get across.

That’s a 320s caribou. No mass, two longest top points aren’t very long. Etc…. Just a nice looking bull but not a giant.

Congrats on the one you got!
I’ve only hunted caribou twice and have been like most people, more of a meat hunt. My lady would like me to find her a nice, potential book caribou. You sound like you’re familiar with the scoring system. Do you have any tips, pointers to look for? I saw that bull in the video and was like, yeah he’s nice. You’re the first person to spit out a number like I would do for whitetails. I’m very familiar with them and could talk all day on WT’s.
I’m relatively new to elk as well, shot a 283 and a 336. One thing that has helped my brain is I divided elk scores by two and out it into a whitetail class. For example, world record typical elk is 442 (divided by 2 puts its at 221 “whitetail” class). World record white tail is 213. While it’s not exact it helps my whitetail brain. So my two elk: 283 goes 141.5 and my 336 goes 168. It’s not a perfect method, but it’s quick and easy. Maybe a divide by 2, minus 10 would be an even more accurate approach but it’s apples to oranges.

Taken week before last, first trip to AK. Great first caribou for me. Stalked to 100 yards while bedded.

65 PRC, 147 ELDM, North side of Brooks range in the hills.
