2024 Wild Sheep Meatpole Thread!

Felled this guy back in October with Great Grandad's rifle.

It was at least the 10th bighorn taken with that gun.

Pretty good mass on that critter:

Good lord.

What rifle is it?

Went to the Yukon Territory for this stone sheep. Full curl 8 yr old. It was a dream come true. First sheep but wont be my last lol
Don't see many stone sheep posts, or maybe I just don't pay close enough attention. Either way, cool to see, thanks for sharing.

Griffin & Howe mauser, 7x57, employing the same load that was settled-upon before I was born. (160 NP). Still combing through the hunting journals, but this was at least the 10th bighorn taken with that rifle.

I'm not sure what's cooler, the ram or using a rifle with history like that.

A bit late to the party. Digging through a pile of pictures my mom sent me, I found these photos from 1967. Dad shot him in the eye with his trusty 22! This was in the hills near Los Angeles. My memory is a bit dim on this, but I think he said the ram appeared maybe 30 yards away from him.

Man, we kids absolutely loved the taste of that meat! Young enough to know healthy protein without any notion of "gamey" meat.

Gotta be one of the only trophy pics of a ram in a house. I love this. It’s real.

First Ram, finally. After striking out in area Alaska 19c in 2020, got it done in the Yukon. Thanks to Tim Mervyn and his crew! Fantastic hunt, did it the hard way with the backpack hunt (vs horse) option that Mervyn's offers. Really cool bonus, as my guide called a couple of wolves off a sheep kill. Couldn't have been a better experience!

Congrats on an epic hunt - fantastic ram

Man, a great ram and two wolves, both black, incredible experience.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your success. I will be joining a good friend for a OIL Bighorn hunt this year in WA State. This thread give me a boost of excitement. Thank you!

Desert Bighorn, January 31, 2025. So glad I jumped on a short notice opportunity.
