Toyota doesn't want to sell a stripped-down model for 30k. It doesn't make sense for them. They might have to sell twice as many of those to make the same money they make selling the ones they are making now, and they are having no problem selling the ones they make now.

It wouldn't make sense for them in times of normal parts availability. It really doesn't make sense now with supply chain issues being what they are. That said, I do think Toyota probably has fewer supply chain issues than the big 3 because I think Toyota keeps more of their supply chain under their own roof.

I don't think manufacturers ask themselves what people want. They ask themselves what people will buy. They aren't always the same thing. If there isn't a base model on the lot, how many people are walking away? How many people would it take walking away to make it matter?

I actually don’t see an issue with slow but steady progression. I never understood the “gotta have an all new product just because the year-flipped” mentality. I mean I fully understand it from a marketing perspective, but pragmatism has its benefits.

There are pros and cons to both strategies. The Japanese get on the boat on some things way too late. Apple came out with the iPod in 2001 and five years later I still couldn't plug one into a 2006 Tacoma.

Power tailgate? Jeez have we gotten that lazy? Looks like a great truck though. I am just too cheap to buy one. I think my Land Cruiser can go another 250k
yeah. Should get another 250 out of my 100. And its almost like the ARB was meant to be on it from the factory ;)

Look how long Honda built the XR Series of bikes. 2 decades and the only thing changed was the color of the plastics. It worked for them for a long time, but it gave the other brands a chance to catch up and in some instances, surpass them in R and D.

I would love a truck that you could easily hose out that didnt have an interior like a cadillac . Minimum computer , minimum requirements for emissions . Heavy duty chasis and drivetrain . Winch , arb bull bars and air lockers from factory . No power anything in the interior and a low budget AM radio . Lol . Trucks are too fancy these days. (Yes i know about "work truck" models)

The first new vehicle I ever bought was a 79 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 6 cylinder, manual shift on the floor, rubber instead of carpet, vinyl bench seat, roll up windows, and no a/c. I paid $5600.00 for it. You would never see a truck like that on a lot now.

You are correct you won't see a new truck like that on the lot again.

You will never see a car manufacturer build a vehicle with the technology from 44 years ago, and then sell it for the price they did 44 years ago.

I meant featured like that. That would be a 25k or 30k truck now, but I haven't seen a stripped down truck like that on a lot in a long time.

I doubt anyone ever said….“man, I wish i had an Eddie Bauer interior”

After having owned an Eddie Bauer Excursion I can tell you that I have many times wished I had an Eddie Bauer interior in every vehicle I've owned since .

🤔 uh, yea………… how you can draw a comparison between Eddie Bauer‘s green/tan interior aesthetics to an actual after market mod that provides performance enhancement/improvements is beyond me. I guess maybe they make your backside more comfortable. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Simply stating that the amount of ARB accessories that Toyota has integrated into their “from factory” builds in addition to now even a second reputable suspension offering in OME (in addition to FOX) is pleasant to see. It’s not for everyone but the integration and offerings are welcomed in my opinion. Toyota knows they have a huge market in the off-roading/overlanding community with this vehicle and they are making it even more appealing to them by tailoring certain vehicle trims to them. To me it says they are at least taking notice of what their customers want and/or use.

I agree. I was being just a touch sarcastic. But, my goodness, I love being so on Toyota threads. Especially the tundras.

Anyways, i hope you find what you like. But, go all the way man. Snorkel that bugger. Make sure you have a huge, winch capable bumper, with a winch insert at booth ends. Put a sweet topper on it with a luggage rack on top. With a bed storage system including a pull out deck. Straight up overland it.

They finally did away with rear drum brakes!
I bet that about killed them to do that
Wish they bring back that top mount oil filter. That thing was genius.
One thing I like about the Ford trucks is you can run the rear locker in 2 and 4wd, high and low.
Toyota used to be 4 low only.
