After 3 years with no success, we finally pulled it together! I called this bull in for my buddy in Southern CO. We had the grand plan of hiking a 25 mile path from one truck to another. It included going over two passes and hitting 3 drainages. We found elk 3 miles from the first truck and never left. So much for planning. lol.

Sounds like your plan worked perfectly. The ultimate goal was to find elk along this 25 mile path, right? And the ideal scenario would be finding elk closer to one truck or the other rather than at the 12.5 mile either direction midpoint. Nice bull!

This is absolutely correct. Just seemed so ironic the way it panned out. Let's just hope they're in the exact same spot next year. :ROFLMAO:

Congrats that's awesome! 25 miles? I live in idaho in similar country as CO for the most part. I'm in great shape and the thought of killing an elk about 12 miles from the truck makes me wanna puke.

We were never more than 5-6 miles from a trailhead. There was only one trailhead that we'd have to hitch hike from or send someone to get a truck.

Congratulations! Just a heads-up for future hunts, make sure you attach your tag to the carcass, not the antlers. CPW recommends attaching it to the quarter that has the evidence of sex. Just throwing it out there to avoid any future issues.
