I have just started to scout for the upcoming elk season in Montana, mostly around the Missoula area. Has anyone else began? This will be the first bow season for me (have hunted rifle for the pass 4 years) and wanted to share reports.
My current thinking is that given the low snow year, we will see higher harvest numbers this year simply owing to the fact that elk across the state had a mild winter to contend with. I have not laid eyes on any animals yet, nor heard bugling of any kind. When have others started to hear bugling and pre-rut behaviour?
