I really don’t think it matters anymore. It’s all about weather, location and pressure. I hunt otc CO typically and last season the hunting was amazing starting the last weekend of ML through the end of the of the next week. Where I was the weather was cool and rainy. It was some of the best action I’ve had in years. I prefer the last week typically but the last week this season got hot and dry again and ended up being one of the worst weeks of elk hunting I’ve ever had. It’s a total shot in the dark IMO. If the pressure is high it’s a total guess you just need to be out there as long as you can and hope the action heats up while you are there. I’ve had incredible action the first day of the season and the last day of season and pretty much everywhere in between.
Have discovered the full moon does affect them to some extent. But not enough for me to worry about it. The last 2 years we had bulls screaming when the moon was full. 2023 it was the last week of Sept, and the boys were really getting busy. 2022 it was between the 8th and the 12th. and it did not matter.
I would not get too excited about it, take the last two weeks of Sept off and get after em.
