Started scouting in May and found a lot of young deer with potential but struggled to find bucks I thought were 5 or older. On July 15th I settled in on this buck we call Trip because of his 3rd horn. He wasn’t the biggest buck I found but with 4 years of history with this deer and the uniqueness of him I fell in love! Opening day resulted in a miss at 35 yards… . Day three I missed again at 41 yards!! I couldn’t control my nerves!!! I was shaking so bad. Finally on September 4th I found myself 15 yards from the deer with no shot. I let him walk by and then followed him on an established trail to his bedroom. At 23 yards I made the shot and another very fast follow up shot at 20 to put Trip to rest. I couldn’t believe it. He was laying dead right in front of me. This deer was one of the most elusive bucks I’ve had the opportunity to hunt and I am so grateful for his life and all the time I got to spend photographing him over the summer. Hope you all enjoy the story and the photos!
