Congrats on a great first elk! Now that the ice is broken and the pressure is off, an archery kill is sure to come! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

2021 comes to a close, grandsons UT cow elk on the ground. First time he’s had his own tag, 200 yds and his 6.5 CM did great..

After several years and many close but no-cigar hunts, it finally came together with the bow. My hunting buddy of many years and I did this together, its OUR bull. Looking forward to next year when he is behind the bow and I can call one in front of him. We’ll pack it out together and split the meat. Ohhh that meat!

My 4th 6 point in a row. Barely a 6 but I’m happy. My goal this year was to be caller and help my hunting partner get the monkey off his back. I ended up calling this bull right to me.
Learned a couple lessons this year, first is to not prioritize other things during the season, normally i elk hunt every chance I get. This year I deer hunted out of the area the whole first week. Second if you set a goal stick with it, I have passed in 5 point bulls for the last 10 years and my goal is to kill a mature 6 point bull every year. This year I saw this nice 5 point walk out and figured it was probably my only shot since I was dedicated to calling and it was less than a week before the season closed. As soon as my arrow disappeared into the bull and he took off the heard bull and his cows came running out of the timber and stood there watching him. I instantly regretted my shot while watching a 300+ bull tend his cows in front of me at 40 yards not even knowing I was there, if I would have stuck to my plan of passing bulls I would have killed another nice mature 6 point. I was happy to see the 6th point on this bull though and am thankful for a freezer full of elk meat. This was also my last Eastern OR OTC bull since in 2022 all of the units we hunt went to draw.

2nd season Co. 3rd day at 5 p.m. he ripped a bugle back at my cow call. He was within 100 yds. Climbed out of the steep little drainage I was in, and he was looking at me 60 yds away. Put 2 in him and saw him pile up 100 yds away. Always fun how fast things can play out, when the hunt is feeling quiet or slow!
