CPW posted this year's post draw report and there is some interesting information with respect to the NR applications. It's not as dire as the sheep report, but nonetheless, it's not encouraging. 2018 NR applications with 0 points increased 54% from 27,246 in 2017 to 41,804 this year. Even worse, the number of NRs with 0 points purchasing just a preference point jumped 125% from 8,804 last year to 19,799 this year.

I wonder what impact this will have in the years ahead, besides multiple point creep on many of the lesser units that were reliably drawn with a handful of points?

Considering I burned all my elk points in 2017...looks like I'm OTC full-time for a while:)

I'm guilty as well...I've always bought Elk and Sheep PP...so why wouldn't I go ahead and throw in Moose, Goat, and Muley for $3/each.
I'm sure a good portion of these are much like me, doesn't mean they will be using the points anytime soon (especially the $2000+ specialty tags)...just thought I mine as well grab them while I can and hope they still last for 10 years should they ever start charging more.

Overall though...you are correct...it's sure not going to help the current point creep situation. We may need to annex part of Canada:)

If you were forking out $600 for NR elk and $2,100 for NR sheep in years past, then I wouldn't say you're guilty at all. You were paying to play.

Its not worth jumping to any conclusions yet. Its not staying $3 to apply.

Perhaps. I believe the cap approved by the Legislature is $100 per species. That doesn't include the app fee, which is capped at $20. So potentially $120 per species.

I wonder if all these new applicants understood the past about the additional $40 charge per species when the point was awarded. Yes, if you had a license last year you could avoid that, but it seems like if they are new to the point game they probably didn't have a license last year. Could be some in for a rude awakening when they get their credit card statement this month.
