2017 Success Photos

My first archery bull.
Pecos Wilderness, NM
9500 ft.
Heard a bugle so I started towards them doing a lost cow squeal and ran right in the middle of the herd. It became a target rich environment real quick! I shot this one then my buddy went after the herd bull and almost got him. thankfully there were three of us to pack him out 4 miles and across a canyon.

3rd Bow Bull 4th Elk with bow

After searching High and Low I got it done in the river bottoms. Elk jumped into a ranchers cattle field and died.

My dads first archery bull. It was a Text book hunt! Located him early and he came all the way into my calling Bugleing! He shot him at 20 yards perfectly broadside.

Idaho 9-28 trailed this bull and his cows about a half mile until they finally reached their feeding area. Was able to slip in to 65 yards. Went about 100 yards and fell over.

First elk hunt. DIY, OTC in southwest Colorado. Shot this 5x5 coming into a water hole the last afternoon of the last hunt of the trip at 8500' elevation. 52 yard shot, double lung, 30 yard track and we're able to drive up to him and load him in the back of the truck. Heck of a first hunt!

Third times the charm - first elk I've shot! I was camped at 12,000' and eating a snack back at camp after a failed morning and blowing a group of 15 cows out of the basin. I looked up and saw a group of cows just outside of camp and grabbed the rifle quickly and snuck over and this bull was standing right there in the open for me! Packed him out over 2 days and a total of 28 miles..

Wish I had a better photo, but this is the rack from my first ever elk, a Roosevelt bull from Afognak Island, AK! We were in a hurry to get the bull to the boat because of all the bears on Afognak, and this was the first opportunity I had to get the camera out after the hunt. The cow in the photo was taken on another hunter's tag.

My wife snagged a reissue List B cow tag for NW CO. We saw some incredible bulls, and she tagged out on the second evening.
8300ft
3 mile pack out
Spot and stalk, with a little cow calling to hold the herd after they initially busted! :D

Love that third pic

My little brother drew a limited entry cow tag that lasts four months. Called this one in and he shot it at 60 yards on the opening day of archery season in Oregon. Jonny Elk.jpg

First time traveling from PA to elk country and completely addicted now. Opening day Idaho bull at 5600ft. Heard a bugle at first light found him at 1000 glassing took a few hours to refind the herd in a thick bowl but dropped him at 178yds as he was pushing his cows and hitting some trees. Even more memorable to have my father along
