We are looking for 1-2 new packers/assistant guides for the 2017 season. I've had good luck in the past getting interest from roksliders. DIY hunters, backpackers and individuals with remote experience work out great. This position is brutal work, horrible pay, and takes a mentally tough person. On the upside, you will learn more about mountain hunting than you can get out of a guide school or hunting for decades.
Trail work, putting in camps, getting pack animals in shape, ranch work, cleaning, season prep, etc... - July/August
sherpa/packing/cooking/chores on 2-4 goat/sheep hunts across the state and work in archery elk camps - September
35-50 days of elk, bear, mule deer in wilderness camps 6-13 miles from any trail head. - October/November
Some potential to guide in the rifle season, for the right candidate.
Good candidates usually have some of this background:
Military or other experience where you have had to deal with prolonged discomfort
Long term wilderness trip experience or extreme interest in
Backpack hunting, pack-in hunting, etc...
Physically fit, no substance abuse is tolerated
Humble - don't apply if you already know everything
Horse and mule packing experience or exposure to livestock - not a necessity, but you should have interest
Team players that realize that shit happens in the wilderness, but we have to unshit it as a team
All of the above are more important than your hunting experience.
This position is generally not good for people with a lot of personal obligations, family, needy significant others, etc... It's unfortunately not accommodating to these aspects of life. Preference for candidates looking to be in the industry for 2+ years.
Good personal gear.
PM me if you're interested.
