Not holding my breathe, but I just might have my wife convinced that we should take a vacation in Reno from Jan 22-25. The sheep bug is infecting her too!

So to open up a bit of a debate, if you could go to the SCI convention in Vegas, or Sheep show in Reno, which would you choose? Sheep are my preference, but looks like flight and accommodations may be a lot cheaper for the SCI convention, and I've heard it's a bigger convention. Would love to hear more about each from the members.

Buster I went to both while sci was in Reno. If your pockets are deep, the sci is better only because more exhibits and stuff to look at. If you have the sheep big only, The Reno sheep show is more than enough to get your juices flowing.

Pockets are shallow, like a creek bed run dry, but man would it be cool to go to a big convention. This is a plus 1 for Reno then.

Aaron, I sent an email about a month ago to Kifaru asking if they were going to be there and got one back saying they wouldn't be there. I was wanting to try on some packs. Are they going to have a booth with packs and stuff or just some of the Kifaru guys going? I'll be there either way but would sure like to see their stuff.

I looked at the booth layout saw kifaru had a spot. I'm sure hoping they do, it'll be one of the few ways I'll get to actually check out a timberline bag in person before ordering.

I was at SCI last year for a few days.
It is by far the biggest 'show' I have personally attended.

My wife and I are attending the entire time this in Vegas in 2014. Lots to see and take in over a 4-day period of time.

I must comment on the 'deep pockets' post above. SCI does indeed have some US and international members who have done very well for themselves financially. And to make an organization whose main goals are conservation, education and humanitarian outreach work, you need money.
However, SCI is about hunting and protecting the hunter/sportsman and hunter's rights. SCI is not about jetting off to exotic locales and extended safari trips. It's about hunters and the right to hunt. In my opinion (you get exactly what you pay for here:)) every hunter should be a member. When you look at the impact locally, nationally and internationally and then realize this entire worldwide membership is only 55,000 members you will realize the bang-for-your buck you are getting in an organization that is going to bat for you daily in the courtrooms and legislative offices in every state and around the world. Just my .02.

Sure sounds like a blast. My wife, a non hunter, looked at the brochure and thought it was something that would be fun to do together. Can't suppress that! : ) Might have to work the logistics and make it happen in 2015. :) Look forward to hearing all about it! We need to make a Sheep Show sticky to keep all the reports in one spot. : )

Like I said in the OP, good thing I didn't hold my breathe on going to Reno. Logistically the plans were simply not going to fit our schedule, and our baby sitters (grandma and grandpa) are not available that week. My dreams of the sheep show are dashed for another year. There is a chance that the back up plan of Vegas for the SCI convention may work out. I really had my hopes up for Reno though.

I was debating whether to go to the Sheep show or GSCO and realized I would rather go mountain lion hunting instead. Might still go to one if I can figure out if I have the time. My wife is not interested in going to Reno. Not a gambler or likes the hotel scene. Any suggestions on what she can do instead? Skiing is out.
