Day 2, much if the same for me, severe headaches, nausea, no appetite, weak and tired.

I managed to get up and over to a place known as Big Buck Basin. The deer didn't really start moving until about 8, wasn't sure if that was because of weather or the full moon.

I glasses up ten deer total, 4 of them being bucks. Out of those four only one potential shooter. He was a 3x5 with a typical 3 side and a side hard to describe. A G2 that was solo, a G4 that had a 5" cheater out to the side and a messed up main beam. It didn't matter all that much, I watched them for about ten minutes and the went into timber and I never saw them again.

Bret went back to the basin we were in last night and hopefully he killed something.

Bret said this morning if we had to leave because of my health he would. That's a generous offer, but I would love to see him kill something first.

On a side note I was glassing the area of our base camp and saw lots of deer including a real good 4x4.

There isn't much worse than looking forward for something so long and then getting a curve ball like this thrown out you.

I don't know how the pictures of the deer tuned out, but he is pushing 160".

I fee for you. Seems like every year I get a nasty cold that cuts my lung capacity in to a quarter. It doesn't compare to what you've got going on. Good on you for trying to stick it out for your buddy.

Rosinbag, For just being there you are a stud.. There are not many people who could endure that pain and still do what you are doing. You guys are determined and I can't wait to see the "after the shot" pictures.

Considering what you have gone through just to get there is saying a lot. Best of luck, hopefully your health turns around and you can stick one. I should be in that country by weeks end. Good luck.

Go put an arrow in the buck down by your base camp...you'll feel better.
Just don't be a hero.... if it's too tough, get out a there. You've already taken
more than most of us could.

Morning of day three had us glassing a basin from the afternoon of day 1. We put to bed about 15+ bucks. Several shooters. And as luck would have it we started seeing hunters moving in below us. We watched them bust up one group, miss a group sneak out from under them and still watching as I type.

That's the rubies for ya! If you see some. There's a big chance someone else does as well! Hopefully they back out and you guys can get a game plan for the evening. Good luck!

Keep it up Rosin! I will be there from Sept 28 through Oct 4. So I guess you have cell phone coverage up on the mountain tops? What is your carrier? That would be good to know that I can use my cell phone if needed.

All the big bucks have moved on with the hunting below us.

We did watch the 180" spend a couple hours dogging two guys. He won.

We are going to glass the basin above our base camp tonight since we have to re supply food tomorrow.

I could have saved my meals, I made three and are less than half of each.

AT&T works on the mountain tops and the east side of the rubies.

You guys sure are getting slammed with bad luck! I bet seeing that 180" buck get away from the other hunters made your day :)

This evening I glassed up 6 bucks and 3 goats all in the basin of our base camp.

I will be heading down there tomorrow at some point.

Awful break Doug...I hope for a quick resolution for you. They are horrible to have at any point, but on a trip like that is beyond miserable. Good luck on the hunt and feeling better

I just saw the weather report for the Rubies and East Humboltds and it looks like they might be getting hammered with lightning and everything that comes with it. Looking forward to a update.
