boy, you guys had me talked into a Shangri la 5 for a try. the new color... daffodil yellow! whoa bear!

Price went up $50 as well. Might be worth waiting to see what Kifaru comes out with. I would say when you add how much a stove jack addition is the golite was under $400 but now it would be closer to $450 unless you can do the mod yourself.

Adding $50 for the stove jack would bring the SL-5 up to $400, not $450. Also, you get the tent/flysheet and the nest for that prices. Together they come in at around 5 pounds 10 ounces. The Kifaru 4-man tipi, which is the closest equivalent to the SL-5 in size, weighs 5 pounds 5 ounces but that is just or the tent, no liner or nest comes at that weight, and it costs $850.

Yeah but you don't get a tipi made out of the best parachute material out there. ;)

I thought it was made out of rhino scrotum. At least that's what someone else said on this forum.

Barf, that yellow looks like crap. I'm glad I bought a used one. It's at Bearpaw getting the jack installed right now. Plus I bought their Pyranet 2 nest for mine. I'd buy used instead of the new one.

That was suppose to be a secret. Nice husky way to tell all these fine folks they are makeshift nuts... :)

The toughest, most water proofest material on the planet. Some day when I have the coin, I'll own a tipi. Until then, it will be my SL-5 and soon to be a paratarp.

Bearpaw charges $80 to install/return ship or did me, lol, yes if you live close and can drop it off then it will be cheaper. Add shipping etc to get it there and it is close to $100 out of pocket. Have to add all your costs and not just the jack and install. UPS insured is always close to $20.

I just wrote GoLite asking them what the heck was up with the color and the almost twenty percent price increase. Waiting to hear back..
I guess the color is do-able but the price increase sucks. Be allot easier to find in yellow.

I've got a yellow popup I bought in the thrift shop for my little sister, when we set it up, we call it "camp Daffodil " cause it's fun but I only spent $4 not 400.
i'll wait till a used green one comes up for sale now! oh well.

What I find odd is a couple weeks or months ago I happened to be on their site for whatever reason and they had both the green and yellow available. I don't remember specifically if there was a price increase then but it didn't grab my attention. It looks like all of their tents are up $50 or so as weren't they all at 50% of the "retail" price before? Personally, I would love to see them come out with something just a little bit bigger and taller.

They offered yellow color before in 2011. Maybe the green SL-5s are due to come in later this year. Still think its dumb they won't sell you just the fly and force you to buy the nest too! Oh well...glad I bought mine back in 2010 when they were MUCH cheaper and green. :D

I was going to be pulling the trigger on a La-5 soon, and liked the green. The yellow doesn't bother me, as it will be easier to tell those left behind at home that if I don't return on schedule, that I will be in the vicinity of (gps grids), and the yellow may help to locate me in the event of an accident or a search party is needed. I do however have an issue with the additional 50 bucks. Especially since I can find nothing about the product being different in any way. Hmmmm.....time to weigh the costs.

BTW, for those who didn't notice, Kifaru just raised its prices some, or is about to. Everyone has increased production costs to deal with, not just GoLite.

I'm sorry but golite has been doing this for several years in a row now. Wasn't too long ago you could pick up everything for $250 from a retailer. Their direct sales model was supposed to decrease costs not raise them.

They still have great deals in other areas like some of their clothing line and like Justin said its still a relatively good deal, I'd personally wait for a sale if you don't need one till fall (provided they are still in stock as once they are out they are out for quite a while).

Anymore it seems like the direct sales and no middle man are not exactly saving the end user that much compared to those that sell via retail stores these days.
