Dad and I hunted New Mexico in August. I'd hoped to get an antelope with my bow, but the guys we were hunting with didn't get a chance to set up a pop-up blind ahead of time. I made a make-shift blind in a loading chute next to a windmill and hunted that the first morning.
Nothing came closer than 250 yards or so though.
Everybody else was driving around scouting and rifle hunting. Dad got a buck that morning.
I was the only hunter that didn't kill one the first day. Since the outfitters were kind of in a hurry to get finished and get to a wedding, I put my bow back in the case and took one with my .240 Weatherby the next morning.
Great Speed goats all!!! Congratulations. I really wish that i would have had a little more time to get out only was able to put two mornings in before work. Been a dry spell for me no goat since 2010 in WY.
Our group went in to our Oct. 2012 WY hunt knowing the herd was down drastically in the area and with only two days to hunt. I was more interested in meat than horns last year, so I shot the first buck we saw. Decent buck, but the ranch has B&C bucks in a good year. Of course, by the next morning, the other four in our party tagged out on bucks, all bigger than this one. It turned out to be a great trip, and the snow and my longest shot to date (358 yds) make for great memories.
