For some reason I’m looking to try out something different. What can I expect to get out of a set 2011 EL 8.5x42’s? No scratches on glass but they do have the normal wear on the rubber over mold.

Just based on your description, without seeing pics, I'd say $1300-1500 is probably a reasonable expectation based on what I've seen on here lately.

Swarovision came out in 2010. Sub $1500 is unlikely. Optically the new pros are unchanged according to Swarovski. We all know what they cost. I think more like $1600 to $1850. If they were pros, usually $1850 to $2200.

Good point about the Swarovision. For some reason, I was thinking that change happened in 2012. Most of the ones I've seen listed in the sub-$1500 range have in fact been pre-Swarovison models. I actually just picked up a 2008 model for $1150.

Check out EBay and see what equivalent products are going for there. With the popularity of the Swarovski's you always see a lot of product there which should give you a solid idea of value. I just bought a demo pair of the 8.5 x 42s last month from one of the large online optic sellers for $2100 if that helps provide another data point. Good luck.

Agree with this and if you can get them under $1800 it’s worth it. Also you can send them in for a cleanup.

In the past demos were available left and right for around $1800 sometimes there was a smoking deal for just over $1500 for them but those deals are long gone, last demos I saw were over $2k.

He didn’t ask what would get them sold fast. He asked what they are worth. $1300 would be a good price on a used pair of hd slc’s. An absolute steal for his el’s. Here’s the last few pairs of 8.5x42 el’s that sold on ebay. A pro, a pre pro. And a pre swarovision. That is there worthpoint.

Sellers also take a 10% hit on Ebay in selling fees. Then another 3% in Paypal fees.

1 and 2 year old SVs sell for 17-1800. Field pro 19-2000

Thanks everyone. I was thinking $1700-1800, now I’ve just got to decide if I want to try a set of EL Ranges and get rid of these. And for the record I would never sell on EBay, there’s no way I’m paying the fees they get.

Why would there be any price diff from 2011 up to current in your view for used? Other then field pro they are the exact same bino with the exact same warranty, field pro only changed how the neck strap connects but optics are the same in 2011 as in brand new today. So do you feel the optics degrade each year?

Just an FYI, the EL range optics are not swarovision, similar to the pre 2011 slc glass with the coatings. If you want to go to a ranging bino the Leica HD-B is closer to the EL SV.

8 yrs of use. 8 yrs of lens cleaning. To think they dont depreciate is funny.

So how about if you have swaro refreshen them? I never said they don’t depreciate, last I checked they were not $1800 new but if it’s the exact same identical components and quality built and is highly desired it’ll retain much more value.

Unlike a vortex where the coatings do degrade and parts start to loosen up in the moving parts or fall apart. And if you use the warranty you get someone else’s failed product back after it’s a few years old.

In my view swaros depreciate more the first two years but then hold value well until a brand new design in optic elements comes out.

But others on the forum valued 16 year old SLC’s at $1200, to me they would have been worth $1000 max.

New SLCs can be bought for 1400. Some guys get caught up in the swaro name and over pay.

I agree but we aren’t talking SLC, the EL SV’s are going to be over $2k on sale new. Also the SLC’s are not always that low, just currently.

If someone wants the EL SV they will have to pay more. I’ve yet to hear anyone say that after they sent their bino into swaro for a free refresh that it’s not like new, it’s always like new with the optics. Most scratches are in coatings. But if the lenses are bad they replace them pretty cheap. The current sale price on SLC’s is about the same as the used market when not on sale for the SLC HD’s no matter the year.

Swaros just hold their value, I would say they have the highest resale out of any optic.
