20 degree Slick bag + Woobie temp ratings

I am switching my sleep system over to synthetic to simply eliminate the worry of down. I am very intrigued by the 20 degree Kifaru Slick bag + the Woobie to create a very versatile system that could potentially work for summer scouting trips, down to the teens in 2nd or 3rd rifle seasons here in Colorado.

My question is, what kind of temps have you guys been comfortable in with a 20 degree slick bag and a Woobie? I need to be sure with that combo that I would be comfortable in the single digits, especially given the weight penalty it would carry over just having a zero degree Slick bag.

Thats my next question...those of you who have tried this, did you regret not just getting a 0 degree bag and calling it a day? More weight to pack in the summer when the wobbie isn't needed, but less weight and bulk as it gets colder and you would want to carry both.

Any insight/experiences are appreciated.

I just switched to the same system. Be interested to hear those that run this combo. I have the new apex center zip 20 degree and an older woobie. A friend of mine I hunted with last year ran this setup. We had temps down to around 16 and he stayed warm.

Switched my sleep system to the 20* Slick and Woobie last season. Worked like a champ into the teens wearing only my merino base layers. Could've probably pulled the baselayers off but never thought about it before hand.

i figured the 20* and Woobie was a more versatile combo than the 0* and Woobie. I plan on carrying the Woobie with me everyday as an emergency spike camp set up, glassing warmth, and around camp warmth. Kicking around the idea of leaving my puffy home this year because the combo is so versatile.

Good question brother. Never tried to put both in a Large 5 String when I had one in hand.

Currently have 2 Medium 5 Strings and use one for the Slick and the other for the Woobie, SS bivy, and 8x10 Tarp.

Cool, thanks SHTF! I doesnt look like there is much more room in that stuff sack is there? I like to roll my pad up with my bag to have it all in one place, so I'm guessing that might be tough as tight as that looks? Or do you think there's room?

Thanks for doing that by the way!

I guess if you roll your pad as big as the 5 string then stuff the 2 inside of it and cinch down it may work. hard to say though. I could probably get my Xtherm with the 2 if I worked at it. Its very bulky as it is though its going to take up all of the bottom level of an AMR or T1. Definitely wouldn't take this backpacking. Maybe on horse back.

Thanks, how have you liked the bag and woobie? Any experience on extreme temp range?

Ive used them each individually never been in cold enough weather to use both at same time. Im a huge quilt fan now and with EE coming out with Apex Quilts in their normal styles I have a 20 degree on order from them. Both the Wobble and Center zip are top notch products though. I keep the Slick bag around because its completely bomb proof. If ever need a bag that can take punishment the Slick bag is it. The combo together would be outside my comfort zone to backpack with though. Id have np truck camping with them though and Im fairly certain they would have no issue keeping you warm down below 0. That is a lot of loft. If you plan to do this Id definitely go with a wide Slick bag though so you still have room inside the bag for the Wobble to loft our your taking away efficiencies. If its to tight then you loose warmth.

Yep, planning on going with the wide. For early season backpack trips, I would just pack the bag. Then depending on the forecast I can pack my puffy, and possibly down booties. Then for real cold weather back packing, I could even pack my kelvin pants...all of that should get me to 0 and still be lighter and less bulk. But for 3rd or 4th rifle, having the woobie for extreme cold nights at the truck.

For reference the 20* slick probably has about 6oz of insulation, and the woobie has 2oz. 8oz total of apex is suggested as a true 20* sleep system by some manufacturers like Enlightened Equipment. You can also look up lots of threads by people making climashield quilts for their experiences with 8oz of insulation, but the slick/woobie will be a bit warmer as it is fully enclosed.
