The weak spots on the English dogs were the feet and faces. They were both polished off. My Drahthaar had her face missing 1/3 of the hair after 7 or 8 days....and Drahthaar hair is as tough as it gets, unless you compare to a porcupine.

I would do a week in New Mexico for quail. There is four species of quail in NM, Gambel, bobwhite, montezuma, and scaled.

If you were looking for something different from the normal upland birds, I would say a week in Louisiana for snipe and woodcock. They are both very hard flying fast birds that are a blast to hunt. Snipe will not hold point though, but are easy to hunt just by walking and flushing.

I love all the replies so thank you everyone. Due to the feedback about running two weeks with a setter I did decide to cut back and do a couple different trips for a week each but with two travel days so more like 5 days with a rest day breaking it down to 2/1/2. So far the trips I’m considering are an early September sharptail to MT, mid October ruffed grouse in the UP, and maybe another long weekend to ND. We will see on trip 3. Hoping to have plenty of time around locally too to hit everything from Chukar to Sage Grouse.

I go up to Alberta and Saskatchewan and roam around a lot and shoot the piss out of the huns and sharpies.

Saskatchewan is great, but unless this has changed since I last went before Covid- the sharptail bag limit is sort of a pain. I think it was 2 per day and total possession limit of 4, and you have to log your birds in a little booklet that you print out and have to carry with you. Still a pretty neat corner of the world to travel to.

I don’t think I would do two weeks back to back A week in Oct in the Dakota’s shooting grouse Huns and pheasants. Then a week in December in AZ or NM shooting quail.
