2 pellets for elk?

Don’t want to mess with what’s not broken and change to loose powder or up the charge. Think 2 pellets of Pyrodex is sufficient for a bull within 150 yards or less? Shooting a Barnes 290gr.

Probably sufficient. Two pellets are probably pushing that 290 Barnes at just under 1700 fps. Just realize that you’re not likely to get two holes with that load on a big bull.
