1x scope vs open/peep/globe sight?

I looked all last year for a Sightron and couldnt find one. Ended up with a Traditions that works well enough. It also has an outer circle that can help with holding over once you figure out the range.

I found a sightron locally and bought it. Comparing against the luepold RDS and sig red dot against a mountated deer at 80 yards, they were all about the same. I’ll likely run with the scope. The eye relief of it is pretty low though so hopefully that’s not an issue with a muzzleloader

Go with peep sights. To get the correct sight picture you can adjust the front sight location (forward/back) and the rear aperture size. I found the Williams rear aperture to be too small and just removed it. Now I have a small ring of light between the sights which is perfect. People shoot 1000y with peep sights in Palma competition, they are quite capable.

I bought a Vortex Crossfire 1X , have not shot with it yet, seems like most companies quit making 1 X glass.
I have the williams peep site and globe front with various inserts for my Oregon legal gun, in my prime before my vision started declining I figured I could kill an elk at 160-180 yards with iron sights. For me the 1X scope with duplex should help me anyway where legal.

How do you like the 1x scope compared to your Williams peep system?

With my current vision (i'm 61) it is easier for me to shoot the 1X crosshair, there are various 1X optics you can use if legal that I would use over the iron sights. With that said, the globe sight and various inserts were much better for me than the old peep and blade sight. My slowly declining vision is a pain.

Anyone tried a Primary Arms 1x or 3x Microprism?
I’m not looking to use on a muzzleloader specifically at the moment but do plan to get one and all setup in the coming years.

I would put it on a 45-70 right now. Currently have the Skinner peep setup, great eyesight with contacts.
At 50 I can hit 1” or less aim point dots, at 100 I really struggle to be able to see well enough to trust the impact/precision.
I installed a high power scope for load development so I know what the rifle can do.

The peer/post with a 8”x8” square plate at 100 is about the best I have found. Easy to split the vertical and post lines up well with plate width. Anything else and vertical is very difficult to tell when the post is on 6 hold or if there is a gap or covering some of the hold.
