I would like to say thanks to all the members here for all the great post. One in particular had a reply that held true more than all others
it simply said pick a unit and just go. So I picked a spot in north central CO OTC and went. I walked 5-7 miles daily from the gate or road side and seen some incredible country, I walked in one morning very close to a bull moose I couldn't see him but he was real close down in draw that had water running I could hear him grunting with every step and tearing up some timber every 100yds or so. I seen many Mule Deer and lots of other Moose sign
tracks, skat , rubs. ( I was later told Elk and Moose don't co exist well. who knew?) Lots of Moose Skat. so later in the week after not hearing/seeing a Elk for 4 days I moved spots and went down toward a creek where the Aspen joins the Pine trees and that is where the Elk were I had 2 bulls buggeling ahead of me in a area that was more open than the dark timber behind Me if I would rake and break limbs etc. one would sound off every time
and come closer it was very hard to get him to come away from the cows I could hear in the back ground, raking worked but when he would get closer id say inside 100 yds. I had to stop raking as I was pretty exposed. This went on over an hour but I just couldn't get it done. I went back in the next morning and it was windy early and no luck with the Elk talk the bulls were quiet and I was worn out after 5 1/2 days. Thanks again to
All and to the State of CO who allowed Me an opportunity to chase Elk for the first time. I hope to return and intend to use a 2 man team to go after them.
