195 TMK, eldm or 200 Eldx... Am I splitting hairs? (I know...I know....)

For a short/SAAMI throat, Tikka mag length 10 twist 30-06...dedicated 400 yd elk rifle (if that matters)

195 Eldm is a little shorter, less cramping.

Alternatively, just cramp it up, and shoot the 200 or 208 eldm slower.

Any experience with this set up or similar, would appreciate your thoughts.

Or just pick one and shoot (?)

I’ve had good luck with the 200 eldx going 2700 out to 550 yards on elk. I load developed before the 195 eldm came out, I probably would have gone that route instead.

Thanks @Jon Boy . Great bull. What your OAL on that load?

@Fireflyfishing, no reason other than personal history with heavies in 30-06. Just switched to a Tikka and didn't appreciate how short the mag was.

Have you had good results with those bullets?

Buy a box of both and see which one you can get to shoot the best. I didn't have any luck with the 200 eldx in my M70. It preferred the 165gr stuff.

I can’t remember the exact load as i don’t shoot that barrel anymore. It was a stout load of supeeformance at max mag length. If I remember correctly it was closer to 2750 fps…

How about a 168 or 175 TMK?
I’m a .308 guy. I used a 155 TMK to shoot a cow at 600 this year. Worked great with the shoulder shot I took. While I haven’t used either of the bullets to take game with an ‘06, that’s where I would start if using that cartridge. I would leave the 195 for the 300 WM. Not to say the 195’s won’t work in that cartridge, I just like that balance velocity with BC. Any of the above listed will kill an elk though. I really like the TMK line of bullets.

@Jon Boy 's load is the Nathan Foster special (if you get the reference), I was able to push 200s to 2680 with 4831sc at 3.4 oal in the previous rifle.

Ty for the responses. Will look at the 178s.
